"Hotel on Dartmoor"
The hotel is gorgeous - the grounds, the interior, the location The only problem is that, once there, there is really no choice other than to eat in the restaurant. The food is pretentious and "cheffy". We had to search hard for the piece of lobster and it was covered in blobs of different coloured liquids, all with little taste. In order to fill up we had to ask for extra bread and a supplementary cheese plate. The haddock at breakfast was trendily undercooked and therefore lukewarm and the egg tasted of the vinegar in the poaching water. We had just spent 2 nights at Rick Stein's Seafood Restaurant where the food is delicious and varied, the portions copious and there are more than 2 inches of wine in the glasses. The hotel is well worth a visit but take a picnic hamper.

"Nice B&B"
Very attentive host who upgraded us to a room with a bathroom due to a cancellation. The house was clean and tidy. Breakfast was tasty and well presented. If I had to find fault, then for 5 stars I think I'd expect a tv in the room or alternatively a larger one in the lounge, perhaps a later checkout and not a shared bathroom. But that's if I had to find fault. We had a lovely stay.

"Weekend away"
This was a great hotel in a great location, we loved the quirkiness and age of the building the wonky corridors are really in keeping with the building of this age, there is an issue with parking which we wished it had been advertised as you need to book a parking space and we had not been informed. The living public areas were really good with roaring fires which were especially welcome on a very wet weekend Food wise Breakfast was excellent, lots of choice, good service and we enjoyed both mornings that we stayed The food in the restaurant was good with a great selection of wine even by the glass, the only thing that let the stay the stay down was the length of time it took for food to arrive , the first time was a saturday night so we expected it to be busy although it was took 30 minutes for the bread and olives after ordering and only consisted of a two mall rolls which is a lot of money for what was delivered , The Sunday night was not busy but waiting staff surpassed themselves in taking over 45 minutes to deliver the bread and olives after ordering but hey we did get four rolls! they were so slow the the lady sitting to our side declined the main meal as it had taken so long to be delivered. We gave up waiting after half an hour between the main meal and the sweet course as we were left menus and no one came back to ask what we wanted, not what you expect on a quite Sunday evening i do think they need to improve the levels of sevice based on the quality of

Pocket Guide: Devon Dartmoor 5 stars Hotels

A fascinating contrast of wild empty landscapes, manicured beauty spots and picture-postcard villages, Dartmoor is one of southern England's last wildernesses, where ponies, sheep, and cattle graze freely. Most popular for day-trippers is the south east of the moor with wooded valleys and cascading streams. The central and northern parts feature wild open moorland with imposing rock outcrops ('tors'). The whole area is a walker's paradise.
