Apollo Hotel, Agia Marina, Aegina Island, Greece
Posted Jun 2, 2015
My wife and I first visited this hotel for our honeymoon in 1975. This year, 2015, we returned to celebrate our Ruby Wedding Anniversary in the same hotel. The welcome was fantastic. They sent the Hotel mini-bus across the Island to pick us up and parked right at the bottom of the gangway of the ferry. The driver greeted like long lost friends and told us that he had been instructed to give us the VIP treatment. We were the only guests on the transfer. The hotel check-in was the smoothest ever. The receptionist welcomed us and handed us the room key. Asked if they wanted to see our passports, "No, we know who you are!"
Being off season, as the high season now doesn't start until June because of the economic situation, we had the hotel almost to ourselves on some days. The staff were friendly, attentive but not intrusive. The rooms were cleaned every day and the service was first rate. We were greeted in the room by a lovely bouquet of flowers and a bottle of bubbly in an ice bucket (which I had ordered) as well as a plate of hand-made greek chocolates as a gift from the hotel.
At the end of our stay, we were driven back to the ferry in a private car as we had to leave at 6:45 to catch the early ferry.
Overall, the staff were wonderful. The original owners who built the hotel in 1971 were on site and came and chatted most days.
We had a wonderful and memorable time there and are already thinking about going back at the end of the summer.
