"Relaxed beach stay."
Wonderful place to stay right on the best beach for snorkling. We saw turtles everytime we went out. You are in walking distance to everything you need. I would recommend renting a car if you want to go to Tulum, Coba and some of the Cenotes. Highly recommend the Grande Cenote. Tulum ( on the ocean) has wonderful views but at Coba (in the jungle) you can climb one of the ruins. It is huge and the view from the top is amazing. It's a bit of a walk through all of the ruins. They have bikes to rent, but you need pesos for that. Wonderful place to stay! Everyone there is so nice and helpful. I would highly recommend staying here. It's nothing fancy but it was perfect for us!

"A First-Timer’s Review of Hidden Beach - AWESOME"
Without one reservation, we absolutely highly recommend HBR. Any anxiety melted away within in the first few hours after arriving - we never felt uncomfortable. The staff and guests are super friendly and respectful, and everyone on staff that we encountered seemed truly interested in making sure we enjoyed our stay. Food and service was outstanding. HBR is ideal for a quiet relaxation or a romantic get-away. You are totally free to do your own thing, or to join in to the organized group activities – which vary depending upon the level of interest on any given day. Daniel (the activities director who had only been on the job 2 weeks) took a sincere interest in making sure you got to enjoy your stay, and facilitating the activities you were interested in (like painting coconuts, or beach bocce, or just chilling in the sun). There is a minimal late night party scene - with entertainment at the bar / nightclub which seems to wrap up by midnight. There is a unique benefit of having the El Dorado Seaside Suites right next door. It’s an adults only clothed environment (which became a hassle the further we got into the week), which offered more activities, a water accessible beach, and a wider variety of restaurants and night / dance clubs. That benefit particularly extend to their hidden gem of a restaurant – The Gourmet Pub - targeted for the modern meat-loving ‘foodie’. Chef Paulo runs a well-oiled machine – offering an amazing food and service.

"Nice location, lack of security and beach mainten"
First of all, a shout out to Fátima at the front desk, Marcos in the restaurant, Victor the night watchman on the beach. All the staff wad great, but those are the names I recall. The main problem with our stay was the lack of beach maintenance. Unfortunately, the Caribbean is having a serious problem with dead seaweed washing up on shore. Other properties have people cleaning it up as it comes in. This property only does it in the morning. So, when you step out of your room you are greeted with the stench of rotting seaweed, which smells like manure. The usually lovely sea breeze has the same stench allday. The other issue was the lack of security lighting at the entrance by the road. We are used to using public transportation. But the lack of security lighting made it rather scary. It's hard to see where to cross the road, and we worried about stepping in the wrong place.

"Very nice resort!"
My husband and I have been to many resorts, and this one is at the top of the list! Although it was extremely hot (September), we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. PROS: The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful and our room stayed clean. We were celebrating our anniversary, so we were pleasantly surprised when we returned to our room and the hotel services had brought, champagne, dessert, flowers and fresh rose petals that were decorated from the door to the bed. It was beautiful! The grounds were immaculate! The drinks were excellent! Also, the food was one of the best we've experienced! We really enjoyed the seafood reataraunt at Coba (one of the four Bahia resorts that we had access to). CONS: We were disappointed to know that we were only allowed to go to one of the a la carte restaurants one night of our three night stay (that was not mentioned upon booking). Also, our room was far from everything, so we had to catch the trolley everywhere (to the lobby, etc..). The beach was not impressive. Overall, I would recommend this hotel and we will be returning!

"Huge resort with beautiful beach"
This resort is extremely large which was a bit overwhelming at first. We did a lot of walking from our room to the hotel lobby, bars, and restaurants. The food was very good and there was a big variety in the buffets. If we wanted to eat in the a la carte restaurants my husband was required to wear long pants and a collared shirt (which looked nice but not as comfortable as dress shorts). The buffet also required men to wear shirts with sleeves for dinner. The alcohol brands were not bad but they definitely was not the best. My husband likes spiced rum and there was none to be found. The best part of the resort was the beach! There was some seaweed however the water was clear and enjoyable. There were more than enough chairs on the beach with both sun and shady options. Food and bars were easy to acces from the beach as well. overall the staff was friendly and were more than helpful especially when tipped. The pools were clean and had plenty of space. Sometimes the animals which live on the resort would get into people's bags by the pool especially if they had food. It was nice to see nature but also a bit frightening until we got used to them being around us. One day we rode Segways which was a lot of fun and worth the price! We went to this resort to attend a wedding and I must say the location, food, staff, and facilities were absolutely perfect for this wonderful occasion!!!

""Limited beach" but great pool areas"
Good: The resort area was very clean, and there were plenty of restaurant options. The pool area had plenty of activities going throughout the day - water exercise, yoga, bingo, dance lessons, ping-pong, etc. The paths around the resort were really beautiful. There were paddle boats, canoes, and surfboard-like activities included in the cost; be sure to get there early to enjoy them! We got to see some fish on our own with snorkel gear without going too far into the water. The kids got a kick out of seeing so many iguanas and coati hanging out. Not so good: I was disappointed that the beach area was quite small compared to the hotel we stayed at in Cancun. We were looking to spend more time in the ocean floating around, throwing the Frisbee on the beach, etc. There really wasn't much clean sandy area; I would recommend taking water shoes due to rocky areas. There was so much seaweed that it smelled bad. Of course, this might have been the same issue in Cancun if it was due to a storm going through earlier. Our room was really cold at night and the "2nd bed" (a couch with cushions out) was super hard. All in all, I would recommend this resort if you're ok with taking a "trolley" to different parts of the resort. The fitness room, miniature golf, other lobbies, different restaurants, etc., were a bit far to walk especially when it was super hot. Getting a shaded area ( & lounging chairs) around the pools was easy since there were so many in the resort.

"Beautiful Resort and Beach"
I went with my boyfriend and two of our good friends and we had a great overall experience! The resort is absolutely beautiful. We stayed at the colonial section of the resort, and had very quick and easy access to everything (the food, beach, spa, etc...) which was all fantastic! Although I would say we ate at the beach access buffet only once; it wasn't up to par with the other options-- but the rest of the food, the beach, the pools, and the spa were absolutely gorgeous and the service was fantastic. One thing I want to mention is make sure you set up reservations for the restaurants when they open the desk (one person has to get down there around 7:15am) or you will be eating very late if they can squeeze you in. The only other thing I would add is if the manager tells you she is going to make something complimentary make sure you either watch her call ahead to tell them or get it in writing. Anyways, all said and done, we had a great experience! The place was beautiful, the staff happy, and the excursions offered are fantastic. I would highly recommend the Tulum excursion. It was a jam packed all around awesome experience!

Pocket Guide: Akumal, Riviera Maya Beach Hotels

Snorkeling and diving are popular in the small resort town of Akumal, and at Kantenah beach to the north, where the coastline runs parallel to a protected coral reef. In the summer months, sea turtles crawl onto the white-sand beaches by moonlight to lay their eggs. Yal-Ku Lagoon, once a trading route for the ancient Maya, is a bird watcher’s paradise, and can be explored by foot or kayak.
