great hotel, combining training with relaxation

Posted Jul 11, 2017
Pros: sporting facilities and food
Cons: there should be a kettle in the room
Location: lots of trails to walk or run, Vilamoura not far away, also close to the beach
we stayed for 10 days for a warm weather training break, facilities were very good, food was excellent and the staff were helpful. great location too

Rude staff, dated rooms, and old facilities!

Posted Jun 26, 2017
Staff acted like they were doing you a favor. Rude and not interested in your well being. Rooms are dated, ugly and dirty. Facilities are not air conditioned, it's too hot and uncomfortable. Building is old and needs maintenance. Parking is chaotic and disorganized.

Weekly, not nightly resort.

Posted Jun 4, 2017 on Hotels
Hard to find location on a nice beach. Home to large tour groups from other EU countries. More suited for weekly vacations with kids than an overnight stop particularly as it is difficult to get to. Limited local eateries.

Okay hotel. Beach very close. Nice pools.

Posted May 28, 2017
Arrived just before 9pm. Was told that the restaurant was closing so we had to walk off site to get a meal. Only two beds were made up in the triple room, the guy at reception got me some bedding for the sofa bed, but I was left to make it up myself. Otherwise it was okay.

Nice hotel and breakfast, poor customer service

Posted Apr 1, 2017
Pros: Breakfast was great and location was beautiful
Location: Hike on the cliffs into city centre and a beautiful walk along the beach
No customer service. Never a smile. If you have an enquiry, it will be answered, but again, no proper service. They ooze boredom/no excitement. The hotel itself is large and located on top of the cliffs where you can hike into city centre 1hour 30minutes) or walk straight onto the beach no more than a 15/20 meters. It's beautiful. Absolutely stunning. Breakfast was delicious. LOTS of options, very much enjoyed this. There is nothing else you can do there, therefore higher a car or Uber to travel around the city. A small convenient shop is 300 meters from the front of the Hotel which was ideal. If you're looking for a peaceful getaway with no intention to do much, this is the place.

Old style, weak breakfast, wifi payable

Posted Feb 18, 2016
Pros: Nothing in particular
Cons: Hotel needs to be fully updated. Charge WIFI is ridiculous
Location: Location is also not the great
Hotel was disappointing. We expected a much better location and an updated hotel, which is still as it was last century. No free wifi was very disappointing as well.

Relaxing,almost on the beach hotel.

Posted Jun 15, 2015
Pros: So very near to the Beach.
Cons: Bathroom floor could be refurbished.
Location: very near to other small beaches, shopping at ghia , villamora marina, quarteira, 30 minutes from Faro airport , Restaurants nearby, car not essential
very quiet , relaxing hotel,we did go in may!, very near to the beach fof a . sunset stroll before bedtime, breakfast included very good value, nice garden view room, watch the lights go on over boliqueime and hillside in the distance before bedtime, change over morning noisy cleaners, but a very enjoyable stay,we would definately go there again.

Alfamar - Faux 4 star!

Posted Jun 2, 2015 on Hotels
First night our room had no AC - tried to switch and after much bartering and the hotel admitting it wasn't working it worked itself out. They call themselves 4 star - well in my experiences 4 star are not full of nickel and dime amenities. Deposits for pool towels, having to pay for WIFI, pay for a safe - all little things that add up and detract from the experience. The junior suite was nice but the beds were not all that comfortable and the pillows - well let's just say bring your own as they are awful!!!

Wi fi & Location

Posted May 24, 2015
Pros: The fact that it is very close to the beach,
Cons: They need to update the bathrooms and at this date and age, not having free Wifi it's not on.
Location: Nothing to do nearby but going to the beach.
Wifi: the hotel has NO free wifi but this is not the most serious thing. The most serious thing is that they sell a wifi voucher BUT they don't tell you that there is NO signal in some areas I.e. Your bedroom. Why staff don't alert the guets about this ? Location: it is far away from everything . There are only 2 small supermarkets around (10 min walk) and that's it. You will need a car or taxi (16 euros if you ask the hotel to arrange it for you, and cheaper if you call the Radio taxi yourself) to go anywhere.

Beach Holiday

Posted Mar 26, 2015
Pros: The location.
Cons: The whole complex is in need of a makeover.
Location: The location is close to Felesia beach and very near bars, restaurants and shops.
This older style hotel (1978) is based in one of the very best locations on the Algarve for a Beach Holiday. The rooms are comfortable rather than pristine and some areas are rather tired, however the views, location and food make up for the shortcomings also great walks along the red sandstone cliffs and fabulous long clean beach with white sand and azure blue sea, brilliant.
