The mass ascension ceremonies at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta! Liftoff before the sun even has a chance to rise. Beautiful day for the next-to-last mass ascension of the year. Every year for a week in October Albuquerque hosts the International Balloon Fiesta. It's an amazing time to be here with the colorful hot air balloons. One of the most photographed events in the world, and the largest festival in the USA, the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is truly and incredible sight to behold.
With over 600 balloons on the field and launching into the air together, it's really hard to describe quite how spectacular it is. Hopefully this photo does it justice! It's usually held around October in Albuquerque, and the festival usually runs for around 10 days. Our advice is to plan to attend for a few days to be sure you get to see a mass ascension (these usually happen on weekends and one weekday), as sometimes the weather can lead to events being cancelled. #Festival Hundreds of Hot Air Balloons take to the Albuquerque skies during the annual International Balloon Fiesta which takes place in October. Just to the SW corner of Texas Roadhouse is this magnificent Sci-fi bridge. We were able to see the balloons from up close, but I suggest you arrive before 4:30am to enjoy the whole morning show Take the tram up the Sandia Mountain. The views are gorgeous. http://www.sandiapeak.com/ There's a restaurant at the top, and you can hike down the other side, down the ski runs. But since the trails are on the other side, you'd have to arrange a ride. You can also drive up the other side to the lookout platform. At the base of the mountain on that side is the Tinkertown Museum, a kitchy museum and a lot of fun. http://tinkertown.com/
