Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta The bosque (riparian area) along the Rio Grande in its glorious fall colors makes for an excellent afternoon stroll. The international Balloon Fiesta 2015, it's a sight to see! and great festival to check off the bucket list! Everywhere you look there are balloons! Yucca in its full, glorious bloom on UNM campus just north of Northrop Hall. A brightly painted and mural covered building downtown Albuquerque.

The KiMo Theatre, a Pueblo Deco building, was erected in 1927 on Central Avenue in downtown Albuquerque. It is home to plays, films, operas, and various other productions year-round. Giraffe, twice as tall as you and kind of intimidating. Want to stick your hand in its mouth? Good news, you can do just that! Well, sorta.
For two dollars you, or one of your munchkins, can get two bundles of giraffe food. In other words, you get a stick with some leaves on it, but don't let that discourage you. This giraffe, named June, will come right up to the fence, encouraged by her caretaker, and accept the treats with its long, reportedly slimy, tongue.
Feeding times vary, you can find them on the ABQ zoo website. One after another, they fill, they rise. It's like watching sleeping giants wake. The International Balloon Festival, also known as Balloon Fiesta, happens every October in Albuquerque. It's totally worth getting up early to see the hot air balloons launch above the desert.
http://www.liferidingshotgun.com/2014/10/balloon-fiesta-2014.html Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta One of the best weekend vacations I've ever spent was in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the International Balloon Festival! You can walk among the balloons and watch them Albuquerque’s Downtown Plaza is a gathering place for concerts, summer movies, cultural events and - apparently - a ginormous Adirondack chair A view of the Pete V. Domenici US Courthouse and cloud-covered Sandia Mountains in the background as seen from the 5h floor of the Metropolitan Courthouse. Local lizards & salamanders in the special collections lab in UNM's CERIA bldg. This is the place to be on Saturday morning: live music, fresh produce, hand-crafted goods, and children dancing like gypsies! This is nice place to meet or happy hour in bike-friendly Nob Hill. Good food, fair selection of local beers, and friendly staff. Give it a go! Balloon Festival is the first two weekends in October. Hundreds and hundreds of balloons lift off! Color color everywhere! This little food wagon is amazing! Vegan and vegetarian choices: burritos, beans, calabacitas and more. They'll even give you an order # to take into Tractor Brewery while you have drinks and wait on your food. Incredibly accommodating! Big cats at the Rio Grande Zoo are only one of many reasons to visit this amazing place. It is rated one of the top zoos in the country for good reason! Sunrise hot air ballooning. There's a few companies to choose from in Albuquerque, but Rainbow Ryders were good and very professional. It's an amazing way to greet the day #goldenhour The Rio Grande bosque is stunning in late fall as the final leaves make their changes, particularly in the golden hour just before sunset. Tractor. Best kept ABQ secret Albuquerque International Balloon Festival! Is it a new planet? Is it the apocalypse ? No just a shot from the window of a plane over New Mexico This historic catholic church was built in 1793. Located in the heart of old town Albuquerque, it's one of the oldest buildings in Albuquerque. Plants growing in glass jars attached with plastic ties to a bus stop cage: a pleasant surprise on a stroll through the south end of Nob Hill. Old-school phone booth in Northrop Hall. The phone has been removed, but a stool remains inside and the doors still open & shut to give one a quiet box in which he or she may find a modicum of momentary privacy. Fire station headquarters @ 8th & Silver The fluorescent mineral display in the geology museum at Northrop Hall always delights! New Mexico, hot, dry, with wildlife like roadrunners, coyotes, and.... Polar Bears?
Albuquerque Biopark is home to one of these guys, basking in the way to hot sun. Based on the sunburn that I got coming out of that... I wouldn't want to be covered in fir on that day.
Polar bears dive for fish daily, and feeding times very by season, but there is a good chance you can catch him with a little more action than I did here. Check the Biopark website for more details. Can't help but smile watching these beautiful balloons fill and rise. This old rail yard featured in Breaking Bad has a farmers market. Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta This place has changed SO much over the years. It has grown into a wonderful place to spend the day and just relax. I love the traditional lands of the Acoma Pueblo, who have occupied the area for thousands of years. (Again, if I have named a nation in error, please do correct me - my memory of these travels could certainly be off) I desire to return to Albuquerque in the near future to attend The Gathering of Nations.
While here, my colleague and I ventured to Santa Fe. The CEO of the organization we worked at dropped us off in Santa Fe, gave us a quick tour of the place, and treated us to supper at CowGirl BBQ Steakhouse. We took the train back to Albuequerque - a beautiful 2-hour ride back. We took a bike ride along the Rio Grande River in Rio Grand River State Park (November 2015). Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta Bart-style graffiti under Bridge Street near the old Barelas neighborhood of Albuquerque Gorgeous place, particularly in late fall, to visit for various fiestas! I love this spot. Especially when it's around dusk. It is near the CERIA bldg. The Wailers brought their reggae funk to downtown Albuquerque as part of the annual Summer Fest - beautiful night and amazing music! Petroglyphs in a state park right outside town.
