hotel was as expected for a Holiday Inn Express, staff were friendly and spoke both Spanish and English. room was very clean, sofa bed was made up for us on arrival and as a result it a bit snug but for a budget hotel it was no worse than I'd expect.
There are vending machines in the foyer which contain sandwiches, crisps, snack and drinks. There was a telepizza menu in the room but as with most Spanish eateries, they did not open until 8pm so when you are trying to feed young kids before bed it was not ideal, but the vending machine was fine.
there is also a restaurant next door, looked ok but was definitely a bit on the pricey side - however, with no car you are somewhat of a captive audience, you can see that there are some retail parks within a 5 minute drive of the hotel but if you are on foot, to be honest with you, in 35 - 40 degree heat the last thing you want to do is walk.
Train station is a 5 minute walk from the hotel which was great.
Train into central Madrid (Atocha / Sol) takes around 25-30 minutes
Train to the airport is around 1 hr approx
Taxi to the airport is 30 minutes and cost us just under 70 euros.
