    About this property

Duvall House - George Washington ate Here! In the Heart of Old Town Alexandria

An 18th Century Landmark, the subject of books, accolades and tours through the centuries. In the heart of Old Town Alexandria, George Washington was literally celebrated here in 1783 upon his triumphant return home to Mount Vernon following his victory over the British monarchy in the Revolutionary War. A party of epic proportions, including a 13 cannon salute in adjacent Market Square (now home to City Hall) was hosted at William Duvall’s Tavern to honor the Commander in Chief of the Continental Army. Please visit our Facebook page by searching on “Duvall House” to discover more on the amazing provenance of this historically significant property. Originally home to Duvall's Tavern; also served as the 1st Bank of Alexandria. Once the residence of Charles Lee, 3rd Attorney General, it has been restored to its original glory. High ceilings, chandeliers, archways, bright and airy floor plan, walled garden, and modern conveniences. Replete with antiques and original art! Host your wedding, shower, reunion, or other special occasion!!! Inquire about event fees, catering and rental services. Separate contract and security deposit required depending on the size and scope of the affair. Just over 4,000 sq-ft with 12 total rooms - double parlor, office, and den on first floor; kitchen, dining room, and expansive (450 sq-ft), front-to-back ballroom on 2nd floor. One spacious bedroom on the 1st floor, two on 3rd - each featuring a private, full en-suite bathroom. 4 queen size beds in total. Top-rated, Baby Europa crib available for our guests’ use, including linens. Suitable for infants and toddlers. Please advise in advance how you would prefer it configured and in which room set up. Guests have complete access to the entire house. Make yourself at home! Do note that we store/stack the rental tables and chairs in the 2nd floor ballroom, to avoid potential damage to the staircase that could occur if we constantly bring them up and down before/after special events. We have 6 48” round banquet tables, 6 high tops, 2 6’ rectangular serving tables, and 40 banquet chairs available on premise for our guests’ use (subject to event rules and additional fees). Keyless entry (unique code provided on arrival). Owners live locally and are available to address any needs by text or email as they arise. Let us know if you would like any pre-stocking of food, wine, or other special requests upon your arrival. Not unlike Paris, Old Town Alexandria is a "moveable feast". The local amenities are plentiful and the access to downtown Washington DC is easy peasy. Some of the best restaurants in the National Capital Region are just around the corner. If you are into live music, theater, or art galleries, there are several venues within walking distance. Duvall House is just two blocks from the Potomac River boardwalk which features a water taxi to Georgetown, the Wharf, National Harbor, and the Washington Nats ballpark. Located directly across from the front entrance to historic Alexandria City Hall, adjacent to iconic Ivy Lane, and just steps from dozens of shops and restaurants. Free King Street trolley to D.C.- area metro, Uber/Lyft service, scooters, and rental bikes readily available. Best walking conditions on the planet! Public parking on same block under Alexandria City Hall Plaza as well as other local lots.

Perfect property in a perfect place.

Loved staying in this beautiful historic home. Very comfortable place to stay in this great neighborhood in the heart of old town Alexandria. Easy walking to enjoy the history where George Washington walked. The home was exactly what we were looking for. Look forward to staying here again.

    Amazing, Just Amazing

This place was amazing!! We were in town for a conference over in National Harbor, and this place was the perfect location. It was about a 10 minute drive each morning and evening, even with the traffic. The location was great for exploring Old Town, with plenty of restaurants in any direction that you walked, and none of the restaurants were the same (lots of different choices, different ethnicities). We ate BBQ at Pittmaster (a Myron Mixon restaurant for those that watch food shows; delicious brisket), pizza at Bugsy's, sushi at Kisso (some of the best quality fish we've had, and great tasting specialty rolls), and another dinner at Gadsby's tavern. All were fantastic. With regards to the property, this was also fantastic. The place was almost completely spotless. There is a keypad entrance which was very easy to work. The first floor is a series of 4 sitting rooms, one with a chess board, the others with couches and chairs, and one with a TV. There was also a very nice room in the back where the first floor bedroom, attached bathroom, and laundry were located, with a back staircase into the kitchen. The second floor had a formal dining, another sitting, the kitchen and a large room that can be used for a gathering (many tables and chairs; these were not set up). The kitchen was very well appointed with newer appliances (except fridge, which was older, but a freaking workhorse!), a Keurig, a large pantry, and all dishes and cookware. This was one of our favorite rooms, and there was a TV in there as well, but this was not used. The third floor had two separate bedrooms that were very comfortable, with nice bathrooms. We brought a toddler and a 10 month old, so we left the large room vacant and used it as a large playrrom - excellent! The kids begged to play in the playroom!! The owners were great, great communication, and even left a little gift upon arrival. The only complaints that we have are expected: for the house: the floors creaked, which in general is not a problem other than trying to let sleeping kids sleep, and the seating was in keeping with the period, so not the most comfortable. We did shop at a couple of grocery stores and cooked a few times, all was well. If back in the area, we will always try and request this place!!

    Amazing venue

This property was absolutely perfect for a 15 person formal dinner. Chris was so incredibly helpful and accommodating. The kitchen is incredibly well appointed and the location was perfect. I wouldn't hesitate to rent this space again!

    Our stay at Duvall House

This property is amazing and so fitting for a trip to this area! There is so much history and the character of this house just added to our experience. Chris the owner is responsive and awesome! Can’t wait to come back and stay again!!

    We will be back

We felt welcomed before the first step in the door. Chris sent explicit instructions for the house and even set up the ballroom to suit our needs. This was the perfect home base for family and friends in Alexandria for our daughter's wedding. The house was very well stocked with the 'necessities'. The bedrooms and baths are up to the standard of the finest hotels. We loved being in the heart of Old Town with any need or interest easiley met in a short walk. We look forward to visiting the married couple with a stay at the Duvall House that is not quite so hectic. Nancy and Frank
