Noisy street corner with no beach nearby

Pros: Interior charm remains and food was very good
Cons: keep the quality of the food high and the standards of cleanliness, those are the redeeming features of a hotel that cannot change its surroundings.
Location: Library of Alexandria is walking distance and the Citadel is a long walk around the harbour.
The Steigenberger is a charming hotel that was probably a real jewel 50 years ago. Now the neighborhood is quite run down and very dirty. The traffic is horrific and the constant car horns are barely attenuated by the hotel windows and heavy curtains. It is a shame what has happened to Alexandria. The traffic would be fine except for the constant horns and complete disregard for pedestrians. The waterfront looks like a scene out of a post-apocalyptic movies with buildings falling apart and filth everywhere. too bad. Security is not a problem, it is the lack of consideration and rudeness of people.

Its very nice hotel. I'm very proud with thus hotel management and cleanlines and stylish. Only thing gathering us was the noise at the time the window opened.also no parking for the guests.

立地は素晴らしい。建物自体は古く内装もリニューアルされていないので、それが気になる人には向かない。スタッフも朝食時間を間違えて説明したりとイマイチ。

Good Hotel, poor staff

Pros: Location, Parking front of the hotel, sea view is amazing, and room is comfy
Cons: Yes, please get a new hotel management its just not Steigenberger standard at all !!
Location: Nearby to almost every location in the city by car, taxi, or tram
Like most of the 4 starts and below hotels, the staff isn't quite trained to be professionals. Not all of them of course, but many points indicating that it has a poor management control over the hotel staff specially at night. This is of course is not expected from a Steigenberger hotel staff in any country, I stayed in Steigenberger hotels before (even in Egypt but different city) and my experience was quite amazing and that was one of the things that encouraged me to try this one in Alexandria. However, I wanted to order food from room service @ 12:30 AM, where the phone keeps ringing till forever for two tries, then I tried contacting the front-desk which answered after almost 15 rings, apologize for the room service answering problem, then "yelled" on another man while I am listening on the phone who took my food order on the front desk phone !!! This is of course never happened even in a 1 star rating hotel, but if there is no management you can expect even worse. Rather than that incident, and the very bad music you hear in the 4th floor from 1:00 AM to 5:00 AM comes from the down-under disco (these guys needs to change the DJ guy he has a bad taste it sucks ;) nothing you would complain from.

I would go back to Alexandria just to stay here!

Pros: It was calm and had a sense of history. The doormen in red! All the staff were professional and went the extra mile
Cons: They said they are planning a refurb of the public spaces; I hope they manage to keep the charm and atmosphere of the place.
Location: It's right on the Corniche and walking distance to the Library, Quaitby Fort, Souks, the museum etc. Very close to Delices! Our room had a sea view.
We were visiting my daughter who lives there. She recommended 'The Cecil' as the best hotel in Alexandria. We saw other 4-5 * hotels but the majority were way out of town and in - or part of - a Mall - we really didn't want that type of bland experience. The other thing is that in rush hour to travel the 10km along the Corniche to the sights from there can take well over an hour. The Steinberger Cecil is really charming. Calm and restful - the perfect antidote to the hustle of Alexandria! Breakfast is great - my daughter came every morning (but it is rather pricey if you buy it by the day)! Everything you want -loads of choice, fresh fruit, cheeses, meat, a mix of western and middle eastern and a chef to make any type of egg and anything they don't have. I couldn't get over the sheer number of staff - and they really were helpful and friendly; We called down to reception say for a toothbrush and it came straight away; one day the lift attendant saw me looking at the Alexandria gazette (in English) in the lobby. The next morning one was pushed under our door - at no extra cost. We spent quite a lot of time in our room as I was getting over flu and it was really well appointed. New and fresh furniture and beds, lovely mattress and bedding - a balcony overlooking the Square and the Corniche. I was really sorry to leave.
