Overpriced room with an amazing view but outdated furnishings and air conditioner that didn't work, even after being"fixed". Worst bed I've slept on since camping on a roll out mat 20 years ago. Restaurant and bar service were great when available. Disappointed we couldn't get a meal at the hotel at 9.25pm, informed that the restaurant closes at 9.30pm, which I'm sure most would agree is a little too early for a European summer, particularly when there is no room service available. Location made up for many of the hotel's shortcomings.

Exceptional staff. Great service. Great room. The breakfast is terrific. My family and I had a fantastic experience. Gym leaves something to be desired and there is a lawn beyond the pool area that looks unfinished. Given how great this hotel is overall, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt that the lawn is probably a project in progress and will look very different sometime soon.

Beautiful place. Beautiful food and pool. Service great. Terrible pillows and really uncomfortable beds. The room was really really hot! So rooms with a view are on fire, way to hot for us in room and seemed this couldn’t be fixed, aircon not great. So for 5 star bit dissatisfied with a fee things sadly

The Carlos V Hotel is one of the most brilliantly located properties in Alghero, it's right on the sea front, with amazing Mediterranean views it's in a relatively quiet residential area so total silence (and amazing sleep) in the night time. The facilities are wonderful: our room was huge, with nice added benefits like bathrobes, slippers, quality toiletries, bottled water (still & sparkling) provided daily. Cleanliness was incredible - the hotel obviously has high standards - this was one of the cleanest hotel rooms I ever stayed in. The staff are wonderful, very friendly and accommodating - especially the reception staff . Food - we didn't avail of breakfast or the half board evening meals... but we did have lunch in the poolside bar a few times, and it was excellent quality, and reasonably priced. They also have a fantastic wine list!

Experience Ruined by Financial Error
This is a very well kept hotel in a beautiful location, and I literally had no complaints while staying there. However, upon returning to my home country, it transpired that Smy Carlos V Alghero had charged my credit card (presented on check in) for the two night stay, despite me having prepaid using my debit card upon booking. Honest mistake, I assumed, and quickly made contact with the hotel's reception and accounts department. I received a couple of emails from reception to the effect of "we're working on it" and almost two weeks later, and without any correspondence, I noted that I had been refunded a sum of money similar to the amount charged to my card, but not the same. When I sought answers from the hotel, they did not reply to my email some six days ago. All I wanted was clarity and fairness, and they declined to provide it. Even when I made it clear that I would be forced to leave a negative review unless they at least had the decency to explain their mistake, they chose not to respond. In summary, this is a beautiful hotel with courteous staff, but I have been left extremely disappointed with the lack of transparency they have provided regarding a financial error on their part.

Great Hotel
This was a great hotel, very relaxed. Not too far , 15 minutes, walk to town and a very pleasant walk. Just across the road are lovely spots to go swimming off the rocks as well

Not what I would call a five star hotel. Hotel bedrooms a bit dated and pool area needs refurb, garden very bare and wall needs painting. We found the staff on reception unhelpful, asked about car hire one day and the lady rang the car company asked if they had the car we want, they said no and she just hung up without asking us if we would like a different type of car. We also got a telling off/threatening letter in our room for using our own iron. We didn’t appreciate the tone of the letter. No tea/coffee facilities in room unless you pay per week. Best thing about this hotel were the friendly breakfast staff, thank you. Breakfast was just average however with not much choice. Being honest I have stayed in much better 4 star hotels and won’t be back to this one.

About the Reception Staff: we would like to specity that in our hotel there's no car hire. Normally, we call the local companies, they propose us the cars they have and we propose them to our guests. For this reason it sounds weird that She did’t offered you another type of car, maybe they didn’t have cars at all… but surely we cannot consider ourselves responsible for the failure in renting the car. The letter you received in the room for the iron is for a security reason and hotel policy; we have an ironing service (paid service) and an ironing room (free of charge). The coffee/tee machine wasn’t provided in your room because it was a standard one and only the superior categories of rooms are equipped with them. Anyway, we take note of your comment in order to improve our services. Best regards

Ideal for business, less so for families.
This hotel is beautiful if you don’t look too deeply. The facilities were nice, especially the roof top lounge bar. And dinner at the restaurant had refreshing vegan/vegetarian options that were well-prepared after heavy meals outside. But, the room was not up to expectations. It was not dirty, but not fully clean either with a layer of dust on the kettle. And the “family room” is a regular room with rollaway bed. Finally breakfast was weird...on the first day they forgot to heat the coffee and another day they didn’t heat the hot plates under the scrambled eggs and forgot to put the bread out. I get the feeling the team was just tired and didn’t want to be there at that time. And finally, while the walk to the old town is gorgeous, it’s not something you want to do multiple times a day. But, there is nothing near by, so it’s walk or eat at the hotel. If we came back, we would consider other options. Yet, I can imagine that business travelers would like it.

Lovely location, very welcoming staff, good facilities available. Rooms are a good size and good selection of drinks in the fridge with soft drinks replenished daily for no charge. U fortunately, no tea or coffee making facilities in our room. Air conditioning didn’t go quite low enough for me but overall loved the hotel and would definitely use it again if we went back to this area.

Lovely hotel that was both quite and relaxing. The level of cleanliness was very good both inside the hotel and around the pool area. View from the bar terrace was stunning and a great place to have a drink at sunset. Would stay again.

Great 4 night stay
Just returned from a great 4 night stay at the Carlos V. We had an Executive Garden View Room - large room with balcony and ensuite with bath and shower, large sink area, robes, slippers and toiletries. Enough storage for two, minibar which included free soft drinks replenished daily plus kettle, broad tea and coffee selection. Bed was huge as was two singles connected together as is often standard - no an issue for us. Nice firm mattresses and extra pillows. Aircon controllable in the room and working perfectly. Breakfast was a wide buffet selection of cooked and continental - fruit, meats and cheeses, pastries, bread, pancakes, omelette station - you name it they had it. Coffee's made to order (the espresso was nice and strong!) and efficient service. The pool is a saltwater pool which was always a great temperature - cool enough for a refreshing dip but never cold. Manned all the time, pool towels provided on exchange of towel tokens. Loads of sunloungers and parasols and there were always beds available. Pool bar was great - drinks reasonable and wide selection. Nice lounge furniture and great views. Didn't try any of the restaurants apart from breakfast. Had a great stay and would definitely recommend and stay here again.

This is not a 5 star hotel. More like 3-4. After travelling all day and arriving at the hotel about 3:30pm, we were told no food was available until the restaurant opened at 7pm. No room service, nothing. Rooms basic, beds are hard, toiletries are in dispensers on the walls. Great view from the terrace out to sea - just don't look right towards the run down flats/buildings that overlook the pool. Reception staff did their best to help us when we wanted to check out early but there was no one with any authority to change our reservation and it took over 24 hours to check out. Crazy.

A fantastic hotel.
This is such a great hotel. The staff are lovely, our room was so comfortable and cool after a hot day and the breakfast was just superb, even down to the pancake machine! There was nothing we could criticise in this hotel and out of all the hotels we have stayed in, this is up there with the best of them.

AC in rooms was barely adequate, particularly for sleep. Also rooms heated while you were out in a beach environment while AC could not run because you were only given 1 room card. Hence you returned to a heated room. On a more fussy note, breakfast, which was generous, would have benefited from an expresso machine so that you did not have to seek out the staff for it constantly for us coffee lovers. Overall, a very pleasant visit.

An ideally situated hotel.
We had a very enjoyable stay. The hotel is is clean and friendly. It’s situation in relation to the town is perfect for our needs. The pool is great. The maid service was acceptable but we had to contact hotel services twice for items that should have been left. We were also charged even though we had prepaid. A situation sorted out but did cause concern at the time.
