Chalet has a great location minutes from Les Houches and the centre of Chamonix itself.
Very easy to find, stay was very comfortable and enjoyable. We really enjoyed the communal breakfasts as it gave us an opportunity to meet other guests.
Would recommend to anyone looking for an inexpensive Chamonix stay!
Great host who advised what to see and do while in Chamonix. Nice breakfast. (great croissants) Access to everything by bus. Beautiful view of Mount Blanc.
Phil is a great host and the chalet is located near Chamonix, 10 minutes with the car to city centre.
The breakfast is as one could expect, french croissants and some other stuff, but nothing more. The kitchen is their private area so you can't really feel at home there. There are no TVs in the room or anything, the bathroom is shared and has not towels or anything so pack yours.
Our short stay was disturbed by loud french teenagers that were speaking for hours on the phone all night long. The rooms are not soundproof at all and you can hear everything.
Two friends on a short stay, late decision skiing break.
Chalet Les Frenes is on the outskirts of Chamonix on regular free bus routes. In a beautiful setting.
Rooms are basic and beds are comfortable. There are no communal areas but guests have access to the owners' dining room where a tasty and varied breakfast is served.
Owners Phil and Michelle go out of their way to make you welcome and soon feel like friends.

It is what it is - a layover in a busy place. Didn't exactly stay in the place long and we were out for much out the stay..Would only say that it probably should be a bit cheaper
Great little place to stay. Clean, warm and friendly owners. Went with my 2 children who got a little bit bored in the evening as its a short distance from Chamonix. The hot tub was great!
we arrived at night, in the middle of the pouring rain, and in the morning I said a big wow, the view behind the cabin, amazing!
we felt like we were visiting friends :)
very friendly people there,
the rooms clean, had a good night's sleep in fresh bed sheets,
lovely morning with a tasty breakfast
definitely a revisit!
We decided to go with a BnB this trip as let's face it, Chamonix is not cheap and we did not intend to hang around our room all day as the hiking beckoned.
Well, it was a perfect match. Really welcoming and easy-going hosts who do their utmost to make your visit pleasant and unchallenged. They are always willing to help with whatever needs you might have. They even provided us with two bikes to get ourselves out and about which we thoroughly appreciated. The rooms are spacious and good place to put your clothes and "stuff". Nice big windows to let in the afternoon breeze. The beds were also very comfortable and slept well every night.
Bathrooms have two good /strong showers and are always clean.
Breakfast is great with super hot croissants and baggetes and great coffee.
On the whole, a lovely stay.

Thanks so much for your kind words Fiona. We loved having you guys here - perfect guests for us. Independent, active, busy, keen and making the most of all Chamonix has to offer.
See you again sometime hopefully.
My wife an I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was truly a home from home. it was ideal for people wanting a quite environment with a stunning view. I would do it again.
Not one thing to complain about clean freindly great value great host buses are free so getting about ant to bad we missed bus so listen to directions properly and its a great spot for exploring all the slopes
Be going back soon.a kettle in room would be nice.
Drove to Chamonix for snowboarding. Chalet owners were very friendly and helpful. Very good value for money. If you don't have a car there is a bus stop outside. Will stay again.
I´ve went there with a couple of friends. We had a room for 3 in the ground floor. There are 3 rooms and 2 bathrooms so there shoudn´t be any problem (we went out of season and were the only guests at the time). Room was clean and nice. Place is peaceful and quiet. Bikes are available for guests to use (I took one to visit Chamonix). Breakfast is really good: cereal, milk, coffe or tea, croissant with butter or mermalade, perfect for a day of adventure. Although there is no communal kitchen, you can heat water for a tea for example and have a fridge to keep some things.
Somewhat difficult to find. 3 to 4 km outside city core. City buses stop running at 730 pm. Very good breakfast provided. Owner is very accommodating. The use of provided bikes is fantastic. Quite at night. Overall very good.
We loved our stay! If you take the bus the chalet is close enough to get to town quickly but also far enough away that you feel like you've escaped into the relaxing mountains! What an incredible view behind the house! The owners were extremely kind and helpful to us as well! We had a great, filling breakfast both days and enjoyed meeting other visitors at the chalet! We would definitely stay here again!!

Informal atmosphere
Atmosphere very informal. Great birding. Reasonable 15 minute walk to the excellent restaurant of the family owned Hotel L'Aguille du Midi - one of the highlights of our entire trip. As we were dependent on bus or generous offer of hosts to transport us, not being near a grocery store, bank, eateries etc was an unexpected challenge. Access to hike, bike and ski trails was good.
The Chalet was very nice. Quaint, i knew going into it that it wasnt going to be a true 'hotel' experience, but thats the tradeoff you get for the price. Overall a pleasant experience. Its about a 7 minute walk on foot to the bus stop that takes you to downtown Chamonix. If you end up going out to the bars/clubs in Chamonix you'll have to take a personal taxi back. There are no "official" taxis, but there were some livery type services available. I paid $20 Euro to get back to the Chalet. Its a bit steep for a less than 2 mile journey, but you'll be thankful for the ride. Nice place, would stay again if visiting.
Simple facilities that are perfect for the ski enthusiast on a mission. Rooms are very basic and the chalet has seen better days, but you are paying for a warm bed after a hard day, a good breakfast and a kind host, and that is what you get. Not for those expecting any luxury accommodations, though their is a hot tub that I didn't use. The host and his partner are great people. One downside is lack of common space for guests - a good social area would make this place a hit! But as host lives in the Chalet, this is a bit difficult to accommodate.
Have satayed here 3 times now. The Chalet it self is very nice and great value for money. The owners are friendly and very helpful, if you are here to ski for he first time it is well worth asking there advice on where is best at that time. The Chalets location is great for accessing the chamonix valley's ski areas with a bus stop just out side. If you have a car it's also a great location as a base to access other great ski areas as it is situated just off of the motorway and area such as the Grand massif, port du soliue can be reached in just over an hours drive. I would recommend this Chalet to friends and fully intend to return next year.
Visited Chamonix with family - with two kids aged 2 and 6, and stayed for 2 nights. Satnav took us straight to the location. Phil was very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The place is really nice, with a great view of the mountains. Nice rooms and toilets. Free wifi definitely helped. Easy access to Chamonix and major tourist attractions. Will stay again and will recommend the place any time.
The couple that own Chalet Les Frenes were great. They were able to answer all of our questions about what to see or do and they make breakfast each morning. The only real drawback was the size and comfort of the beds, which were small and had hard mattresses. The chalet is just outside of the town of Chamonix, but there is a bus line and train that goes right to the city. My girlfriend and I opted to ride bikes that the owners allow guests to take. The ride was a very nice 4 km.
We stayed at the chalet for three nights when visiting the Chamonix region. Arrived in the middle of the night, but that was no problem. The rooms were fairly basic, as expected. Good breakfast, great service. The hot tub was divine. The location was a little bit out of the way, but the bus stopped right outside the door. Thanks!

Great staff, you feel like your at home, but uncomfortable beds, they should invest in better mattresses.
Very friendly place. The owners are lovely, went out of their way to help us when we arrived without proper equipment and are always up for a chat. Breakfast was great, too. Definitely recommended.
The chalet is conveniently located just outside city limits for great mountain atmosphere and no city hassle. The chalet owners are friendly, helpful and provided excellent information for sightseeing. The breakfast was delicious and we were able to take some for a snack on a hike. I would highly recommend this chalet for an enjoyable visit.

Michelle ist very very helpful and lovely person. It is a very nice place and the hotel is very well and clean. We would like come back to the place next year!!! It’s great and the view is wonderful!!!

Trevligt,
Trevligt bemötande och bra frukost. Fantastisk vy.
