Friendly, welcoming staff, comfortable beds, good food, Windows that open easily, toiletries in large bottles but bring your own body lotion, great access from A38 and M5, perfect location for visiting the area.

Comfortable lounge and pleasant dining room

Posted Nov 6, 2016
Staff on reception and serving in dining room were very friendly, albeit service was a little slow in the dining room. Food was good without being exceptional. The lounge next to reception is very comfortable and cosy. My bedroom was clean but lacked any charm or anything to make it stand out from any other I have stayed in. Overall I think the hotel offers reasonable value and is handy for the A38. It also had ample perking for a hotel of this size. Overall, I was satisfied with my stay.

I had an early morning meeting in the Bristol area so being from Cambridge I booked a room very late to drive down on Sunday. I was shown to my room by the lady on reception which was a nice touch. The room had everything I needed, but was a little dated. Still, if you can get a good night's sleep, nice breakfast and warm shower, what more do you need? In my case, I was up very early to get prepared for my meeting. Once I up I did notice that there was a fair bit of road noise that the window was not cancelling out. Not a problem for me as I was already up, but someone else who wanted to to sleep in may have found this to be a problem. Breakfast includes a buffet option for fruit/cereals etc. and the cooked elements were cooked to order which is great. There was more than enough on the plate to satisfy my larger than average appetite. Unfortunately, the shower was not quite up to it. There was not sufficient water pressure at the time I was getting ready so I had to make do. All in all, I didn't get to look at the gardens or spend much time in the hotel, so didn't use the bar or any of the other facilities.

Thank you for your detailed review. We appreciate your feedback and your comments regarding noise and water pressure have been noted. It is a shame you did not have the opportunity to see the Gardens or have dinner in Carriages Restaurant. Maybe next time... We hope to be able to welcome you again to Alveston House Hotel.

Lovely little hotel, stayed for one night, staff were fabulous from reception to breakfast, I managed to leave my overnight case at home and they even offered to go and get me a few things! Vegetarian meal was lovely as was the veggie breakfast! Would certainly stay again...

Convenient for the M5/4. Great food.

Stayed in single room 51, which was much better than some I've stayed in. Very clean but bath panel had corner chipped off. Plugs were not near bed. Nothing too bad considering it's an old building. I ate in the Carriages restaurant which was fantastic. The food was of high quality and canapes a lovely touch. All the staff I dealt with superb and made me feel very welcome.

Nice hotel close to church for a family wedding

Posted Aug 23, 2016
Pros: Friendly staff. Ideal location for my needs. Pleasant lounge to relax in. Clean room
Cons: As already mentioned - Continental Breakfast option was a little limited in the Pastry department, although there were plenty of other items on offer.
Location: I was only there for one night to attend a family wedding - location was great for that. I cannot comment on things to do nearby.
Staff were very friendly and efficient on arrival. The receptionist escorted me and carried my luggage to my room. The room was clean and tidy. Bed was very comfortable. I had a cooked breakfast which was very nice but I felt there could have been a bigger and better selection of pastries on offer if you were just having a Continental Breakfast - e.g. there were no Croissants or Pain au Chocolat - a common favourite of many people I would say. I was attending a family wedding at a local church at 1pm and standard check out was 11am - I was most grateful that the staff enabled me to have a slightly later check out time so that I did not have to sit around in my wedding outfit too long and could get ready in a leisurely way. I would definitely recommend.

Thank you for reviewing our Hotel. We do try to accommodate the needs of our guests wherever possible so a slightly later check out was fine. We now have a larger selection of pastries and hope to see you at the hotel again in the future.
