Well what a shame! We had such high hopes but the owners of this place and their absolute arrogance destroyed the dream entirely. The location is absolutely superb, every other bar and restaurant overflowing with authenticity and warmth so our trip was saved by their hospitality. The owners of the hotel sit like lords eating and grazing all day with absolutely no regard to the people supporting their business with not a word of hello, goodbye or enjoy. The rest of the staff are obviously miserable in a way I’ve never seen in Italy, usually it’s a joy to see the workers enjoying a meal together however it was quite clear this was not extended to them here. Assuming it’s fully booked with or without effort makes them a lazy host and we’d will be returning to Praiano but will stay at La Conchiglia next door, a small family business whose warmth and kindness abounds like the lemon groves surrounding. The little bar and restaurant next door is sublime and always full speaking volumes to the empty tables at Alfonso. Watch out, your arrogance may well be your downfall.

I had really high hopes for this place. Positive- employee at check in during our stay was really nice and helpful. She gave us information for the Sita and information for the area which was so appreciated. The rooms were nice and clean. Negative- the beach chairs here were more than what you pay for at L’Incanto in Positano. The hotel restaurant staff that we encountered was not friendly. We ended up eating at Trattoria Da Armandino. Overall, I think this area is better for older crowd, would highly suggest going into city of Praiano, and eating at Che Bonita, best pizza and friendly staff.

We had an amazing time here! The staff were lovely and they were kind enough to upgrade our room! The area around the hotel has a few restaurants. It’s a great place to stay for a few nights and the breakfast was fabulous.

My stay was wonderful. The property was great and staff were very friendly. The only draw back for me, was when I booked a shuttle service through the hotel for my next destination I was quoted 130 Euro. When I arrive at my destination the driver insisted that it is in fact 180 Euro. I was really disappointed to have ended my trip that way.

The location is the most unique aspect of this property. To be clear, the beach is not private to guests of this hotel, it is shared with the public and other hotels in the area. While it's beautiful, it is pretty crowded for a small beach, and there is tons of boat traffic. Our room was sufficient, with a great view, however it was pretty dirty, they did clean it again after we asked, but it was a bit disappointing. Staff was perfectly "nice" but they wouldn't go out of their way for us. They never even asked us how are stay was.

Stay away!
Our stay was very unpleasant. We checked in at 1:45 and were told that our room was not ready, we had to wait at the beach. We were were not clearly told that part of the beach was not for hotel guest, we had to sit on the rocks with our bags. When I used the restroom that was next to the restaurant it was dirty and smelled. That was the reason we did not eat there. Room was very dated, old and did not smell well. Bed was very hard and there was no blanket on it. AIR CONDITIONER DID NOT WORK. We requested a manager to take a look at it, she pressed few buttons and it worked for about 10 minutes, and shut off. Room was very hot, by the time we were ready to go to bed, no one was at the front desk to help us. We did not sleep at all. Breakfast was brought to our room the night before as we had to leave early. Stale bread, ONE egg and box of Corn Flakes. I will leave it at that! Beach was nice, but small, barely any room to sit down. Overall horrible stay!.

We are extremely sorry for any inconveniences, during your stay . About the check in : room was ready at 14.00 ( this is our check in time from 14:00 to 21:00) your check in time on our sheduling was at 14: 10 . the beach: on the beach there is the free zone or the private zone where you can rent the sunbeds . Room : We clean our rooms every day and we have not had any complaints in the past about our rooms being not smell well Our house keeping staff are very thorough and do their jobs very well. blanket are in the wardrobe, and AC work well . infact we checked two time your AC ( first time with you and the second time at the breakfast delivery) about the take away brekfast was like your order : eggs, cheese, ham , bread ,fruit, yougurt and cereal . we're sorry you didn't like it. the staff close the reception at 23.00 but at any time you can press 9 on the phone to call us . We try to make the stay of our guests as comfortable as possible. It was a pleasure to serve you. and we really hoppe to meet you again at the hotel alfonso a mare . Yours sincerely,

The location is great, very close and walkable to Africana night club. The hotel was amazing and clean! The view is amazing! The restaurant at the hotel was delicious and so was breakfast! I like that they reserve the beach chairs for hotel guests, but they are $20 each, which wasn’t worth it for us because we only had 2 hours. Also, the hotel has onsite parking which is extremely rare for the the coast! Highly recommend!

The hotel is a no frills establishment. The rooms are basic and clean with a mini fridge but not stocked. There is no room service. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The food served at the hotel is on par with the other restaurants around. However I did notice that the guests weren't hurried and stayed open longer than the other restaurants. It has to be the best located hotel as it's right on the beach and no need to walk up and down a million stairs to get to the beach. You basically walk from your hotel onto the beach. There is a jetty where you can take water taxes to elsewhere on the Amalfi coast. I would suggest that they get a golf cart to take guests up to the main road to get taxis elsewhere

Our trip was amazing! We loved room 7 with a balcony and view of the ocean and grotto. When the noise from the cafes and visitors got a little loud, we closed the beautiful doors and the AC workes beautifully! Our favorite trip so far. Steps to the beach, wonderful restaurants and hearty breakfast with a beautiful view.

A Hidden Jewel in the middle of the Amalfi Coast
The location is excellent as most of the Amalfi coast is too crowded. This little bay of Praia is right next to Praiano (easy walking distance or ample parking if using car) but it is not so crowded; and it is so picturesque with protected swimming. The staff was very helpful and welcoming; most of our contact was with Sophia and she was wonderful. The room was older but very comfortable and spacious; everything worked and we had a beautiful view of the bay. There are a number of great restaurants right there and others in easy walking distance. Breakfasts at Alfonso were delicious with a balanced variety and excellent service. We especially loved the restaurant next to our hotel, Donna Clelia Bar Mare: delicious food and the best service (owner, Salvatore, made us so welcome).

Junior suite is gorgeous; location is best
Location is great. Marina di Praia has four restaurants right in the harbor, plus another handful in east Praiano within easy walking distance -- right along the "romantic walk" carved into the cliffs. The beach at the marina is great for wading / swimming, and you'll find other sundecks and places to sunbathe / jump into the water from the cliffs right by the hotel. Boat trips and taxis can be easily arranged from stands leading up to the dock. As far as the hotel itself, it is convenient that they own half the beach chairs, so all can be charged to your room at a reduced rate. (Same with the restaurant across the marina, also owned by Alfonso -- which we recommend for easy lunches, but try the other nearby spots for dinner.) The junior suite is gorgeous; it has a ton of space, waterfall shower, and perfect balcony view. Not sure what the other rooms look like, but seemed like they'd be much smaller. For better or worse, Alfonso a Mare definitely has a family-owned vibe. In all, east Praiano was charming; Marina di Praia was the where the action was, thanks to the beach and boat options; and the hotel itself seemed the most convenient by far in the area. Only look elsewhere if you want to be removed from Praiano itself, and would prefer to stay primarily at your hotel somewhere higher in the cliffs.

We were not informed about the price of parking prior to our arrival. The staff where argumentative and rude when I asked why they were charging us and why is wasn’t in the Itinarary that was sent to me when booking. On check out i was informed that the room was not paid for disputed me clicking pay now on the Expedia site and seeing money come out of my account from the hotel. To say I’m not happy is an understatement

Alfofonso a Mare was the absolute highlight of our trip through Italy this time. They are a family and they made us feel at home and treated us like part of their family. Such is the rest of the community of Marina di Praia. There was nothing that they could not or would not do for our comfort and convenience. Their response to everything was "certo" (certainly). I am a long time airline employee and have traveled much and always hesitate to recommend anything. But if you're going to the Amalfi area stay here at Marina di Praia. You wont regret it!

Old and run down hotel in much need of a face lift. Room was clean, but bathroom wasn't great. Hot water lasted minutes and shower filled up with water and would drain. Breakfast wasn't too bad, amazing location (right on the beach) and very close to about 4 good restaurants. But a little out of the main town, (you can walk there, but it's a decent walk considering the roads in that area)

Beautiful setting but not great hotel.
Postcard picture perfect setting. But being accosted by several "parking attendants" on arrival started off our stay poorly. Room was small and dingy, bathroom doubled as shower like in an RV. Fish for dinner in their restaurant was spoiled/gone bad and made me ill.

Hotel located in a beautiful location on a small beach. Paid extra for a superior room, to discover upon arrival that this so called superior room does not have a balcony as shown on the picture, or even a sea view. WiFi does not work in the rooms at all, and even in the public area works slowly and poorly. The initial reception was rude and unfriendly by 1 staff member, which later improved by the other staff members. Parking is terrible, as small, and hardly suitable for more than 5 -6 cars, but this is a general case for all Amalfi coast hotels. Staying at this hotel we were surprised to be charged extra for beach chair and umbrella

Beside the sea, in Italy. Can't think of anything better to feel refreshed and alive. There are tons of restaurants nearby, including sea activities and daily excursions. All you can imagine really, in one little piece of seaside heaven. Loved it and would go back anytime!

Seems so good on paper - reality is different
This place has to be the worst value-for-money hotel we stayed at on our trip to Italy. The staff were generally quite cold, even in Italian (e.g. never said more than "good morning, coffee?", no-one asked us if we enjoyed our stay). The room was quite dark and barren (not a single picture) and definitely not conducive to romance. The location in a cove, on the beach, seems really nice, but actually you feel a bit trapped. The beach is all pebbles, but with washed up broken glass and other debris... There are sunbeds belonging to the hotel, but they charge you extra to use these ! On a positive note, there are some nice restaurants close by. The hotel's own restaurant seems to have awful reviews, which would explain why it was always so empty in the evenings. Not surprising though judging by their breakfast - we gave up on their breakfast after 2 days and preferred to buy food from the restaurant opposite instead. We really cannot recommend this hotel!

We felt thoroughly disappointed by this hotel. The staff weren't unpleasant but their attitude was cold throughout. Not once did anyone ask if we were enjoying our stay (not even on check-out). The location in a cove, directly on the beach, looks great on paper, but in reality you feel quite isolated. The beach is very small, all pebbles and quite dirty (broken glass, cigarette butts) - plus the hotel even charges you extra to use their sun beds! Breakfast was of a very low standard and their coffee was frankly awful (first time we've had bad coffee in Italy!). After two days we gave up on their breakfast and preferred to buy an early lunch at the restaurant opposite. The room was clean and spacious but clearly hasn't been renovated since the last century. The bed was quite uncomfortable and hardly conducive to romance. The wifi works only at times when everyone else is sleeping. If this hotel were a cheap 2-star, we'd understand, but it's actually quite expensive. The only positives we can think of is that there are a few nice restaurants close by.
