Phenomenal hotel

Posted Oct 12, 2017
Staff were incredibly helpful and kind. Enrique and Irma went above and beyond with helping us with information, suggestions and knowledge . Beautiful Oceanside pool and bar. Prices great and they recommended lots of local restaurants that helped our budget. Long walk to hotel but worth it or grab cab. If we ever return we will stay here Thank you Irma and enrique

Quiet

The staff were friendly and helpful. Sometimes there was miscommunication so they should be careful about what is said in Spanish to each other as you never know who knows the language.

Friendly informal relaxed hotel

Posted Aug 17, 2017
Pros: Close to San Pedro (taxi - 5 mins - 5US$, or 30 mins walk via the beech); Clean hotel and surroundings; Attentive friendly staff; Bar; Modern A/C.
Cons: Basic continental breakfast
Location: Jerk Chicken - Robin's Kitchen (Authentic); El Divino (Restaurant - Great Pizza); San Pedro; Water activities e.g snorkling
The Mata Rocks is a friendly informal relaxed hotel with 17 rooms/bar/pool. The staff is excellent and help to create the relaxed environment. The staff are always willing to offer advise about San Pedro and organise your trips. The rooms are average size and reasonable facilities. The staff keep the environment clean and tidy.A basic continental breakfast is provided, but other options are available near-by. Mata Rocks is 5mins by taxi (5US$) or 30 mins walk into San Pedro. To experience the best jerk chicken go to Robin's Kitchen (100 yards exit left) - Beers can be purchased next door; Try Del Divino for pizza and air-conditioned restaurant (reasonable prices). The pool is adequate. The beach front is impacted by seaweed grass (a known problem on the island) - It's best to start swimming from the pier (the water is shallow). San Pedro is busy at night and Mata Rocks provides a peaceful environment.

Enrique my fav. Person,

Posted Aug 1, 2017
When we got there I didn't really like our room because of the strong smell of sea weed.. the hotel manager Nelson was very attentive to switch our room with no extra cost. I felt very safe being at the island. Except for the iguanas. Enrique, the bartender was amazing. Thank you mata rock staff for making us feel at home in San Pedro.

Pristine, boutique hotel

Posted Jul 16, 2017 on Orbitz
Wonderful service, beautiful east-facing views from each room. It seemed all of the units had amazing views of the carribean. Private small beach for relaxing. Guests aboard boats that picked me up for excursions at the private dock would comment on how clutch the location of this hotel is. Mata Rocks is also very clean, well-appointed and well-designed. Thanks to the staff who made everything relaxed and seamless as I expected.

Mata Life

I enjoyed my stay here, would definitely stay again. It's a small place, quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of downtown San Pedro. You can walk into town, bike on one of their free rentals (gotta return it by 6pm though), rent a golf cart or take a taxi. Loved the view from our balcony. The manager Elliot was very helpful in booking tours and providing information.

Perfect Little Paradise!!

Posted Jun 30, 2017
Pros: Best staff ever!! Elliot (office) was helpful with everything! Enrique (bartender) shared friendly advice & made V-coladas for us non-drinkers. Yum!
Cons: Only improvement I can dream of is to add eggs, cheeses and/or meats to make breakfast more substantial and filling. Please don't change more!
Location: Pool right outside our room, the beach just a few steps away and the dock for boat pick up - perfect for a relaxed visit. So easy to find more to do.
This small hotel was perfect! Nestled between big hotels, this quiet beauty felt like staying in a postcard. The hotel paid for our short taxi ride from the Belize Express ferry. From the front office, we walked around the corner to be greeted by a picturesque, Pinterest-worthy scene of a white washed pool deck at the edge of a sandy beach. Each morning, we walked out of our room across the deck and a bit of sand - maybe 20 steps - to eat a breakfast of fresh fruit and breads at the outside, beachside bar. The turquoise ocean was right there so we could enjoy a view or a swim at every moment. Sitting on the sand or by the pool, we waited for our snorkel tours (that the hotel arranged in minutes) to pick us up. There was quick, local, delicious food (Robin's) across the street or a short walk down the beach to many other choices and tour opportunities. We knew all the staff by name before our short stay was over. They always had recommendations that were worth following. We brought our four children (ages16-26) & our son-in-law. It was quiet at night and easy to watch the sunrise in the morning. The rooms were clean, with a fridge and a safe. The wifi worked everywhere on the property. They were always tidying up the beach, bar and pool. Such a pleasant place. Location is perfect! We are definitely going back!

Feels like your own piece of paradise

Posted May 13, 2017
Mata Rocks has a small friendly resort feel with everything the savy and reasonable traveller should need. The grounds and rooms are meticulous. We had a top floor balcony room where we drank coffee, watched the Pelicans and enjoyed the view during all times of the day and night. We had breakfast at the outdoor bar area every morning. An amazing way to start your day! It was quiet and the staff were very helpful and informative. Walk the beach into San Pedro as it is the fastest route and make sure to rent a golf cart for a day to go to Secret beach. Thank you Irma and Eric for your lovely hospitality.
