Excellent hotel for a short break

Posted Jul 18, 2017
Arriving at our hotel the staff were very welcoming and offered us help on how to travel around the city to the tourist destinations! The hotel is approx 7 min train from Schipol airport, then a straightforward 10-15 walk from the station to the hotel. Every day we got the tram (either number 17 or number 1 around the city) that took us quickly to our destinations (e.g Anne Frank Haus, Van Gogh Museum, Rijkmusueum, Dam Square) from tram stop Surnameplein which is conveniently only about 8 minutes away from the hotel. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of our room as it was very clean and very modern in terms of the decor, exactly like the pictures shown on the website. The only fault we had with the room was that the hairdryer (attached to the wall in the bathroom) had to have the button pressed down all the time for it to work which became a bit tiresome after a while as it would always turn off, but this was a very minor issue. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bastion Hotel Zuidwest, exceptional staff, friendly environment, excellent transport links and perfect for anyone travelling to Amsterdam for a city break!

Inconsiderate design of hotel

Posted Apr 24, 2017 on Hotels
I realize that in general hotels in Europe are smaller in size. However In this hotel the design of the hotel is not even thought from customer stand point. For example, in shower there is no room to keep soap or shampoo. One has to place it on floor. As narrow as the bathrooms are, it is difficult for senior citizens to bend and reach on floor every time to pick it up.

It offers all basics, but overpriced

Posted Apr 24, 2017 on Hotels
The hotel is quite ok. It has all the basics and is acceptable distance from the Lelylaan train station (to the airport) or metro stop 1 or 17 to the center city. The room is quite small, especially the bathroom. Although close to the road it is quiet. The heating is working fine. Overpriced for what it offers, but it could be the period that we traveled and most hotels were booked.

Close to airport, and close to tram

Posted Apr 7, 2017
Really easy to get to from the aiport by train, literally a 6 minute train journey. The train we got was Centraal via leylelaan. Then tram is 5 minute away to central amsterstam/ dam square! Would go back to this hotel friendly staff and clean room. X

Great stay - directions to hotel confused me and ended up walking around for an hour trying to find it! But eventually found it and was a 5/10 mins walk to team that takes you into central. Would definitely recommend and stay here again

Affordable and Close to City

Posted Feb 28, 2017
Pros: Close approximation to city, and helpful staff.
Cons: Food. Portions at dinner were small for the pricing. Okay taste. Breakfast buffet was decent though.
Everything was perfectly clean, in good condition. The staff were very helpful. The food was okay (not fantastic, not terrible), but you might prefer eating out. Breakfast buffet is decent though. The hotel's main good quality is its close location to the main city - it was only a 10 min walk to the nearest tram stop, which was very easy to find. And with the tram it took mere minutes to reach the city with all the touristy attractions. So it was close to the city, without the expense of actually staying at a hotel bang in the middle of the city.
