Hotel away from the city centre

Posted Jul 22, 2017
Pros: The location is very nice.
Cons: The housekeeping could have been into our room everyday and it would have been nice to have the bedsheets changed.
Location: There is the tropenmuseum which is worth a quick look if staying nearby, otherwise not a lot to do but close to the trams into the centre.
The hotel was a nice hotel that was inside of oosterpark. The hotel was very big and clean. Our room when we first arrived didn't seem like it had been thoroughly cleaned as there was still rubbish in the kitchen cupboard from the last guests. On one of the days, out of 4, the housekeeping did not come to our room and we had to go and ask at reception for clean towels. The bed sheets were not changed during our stay, expected a bit more from a 4 star hotel. The first member of staff we spoke to seemed a little rude but other than that all of the staff were friendly and accommodating. We did not use the restaurant as it was too expensive and there were a few other restaurants for better prices close by. Our room was on the main road, so there was some noise from the traffic but nothing too major.

Great location; good public areas; faulty design

Posted Jul 18, 2017
Pros: Location. Large room. Restaurant/bar area
Cons: Make rooms less design-led and more customer-led. Most of the staff deficiencies could be improved with supervision (i.e. a manager)
Location: Oosterpark is in the east of Amsterdam, but very well connected by public transport.
Being located in a park is a real bonus, particularly the large outdoor terrace projecting into the park. Public areas and restaurant/bar are well designed and organised, but service can be erratic. Check-in was poor, being ignored for over 5-minutes (even though we were the only ones there) whilst receptionist continued her phone call, ignoring any eye contact at all. Rooms look cool/funky, but on closer inspection the tyranny of designers who don't use hotels much became apparent: not a single drawer in the room; wardrobe painted black throughout, with black fittings and black glass door, but nowhere near a light so anything within is largely invisible without a torch; bathroom was enormous, but even so, the bath was positioned under the sloping roof making it impossible to stand up; bathroom had nowhere to even store a spare toilet roll; intermittent strong drain smells were left unresolved. Many of these gripes could probably have been nipped in the bud had there been a manager on duty, but we never saw one.

Nice hotel, but far if not using public transport

Posted Jul 12, 2017
The room was lovely and spacious for the money. It was cleaned thoroughly every day and the staff were always willing to help. Although it's only a 30/40 min walk from the main sights this can get be quite tiring if you are walking around a museum all day as well so I would recommend using the public transport. Only downside was that the room doors slammed noisily so could hear others coming and going.

Scenic location

Posted May 24, 2017
Pros: Friendly Staff Beautiful building and location great views good price
Cons: currently undergoing renovation / extension. Our room was quite tired and in need of work (cannot comment on other rooms)
Location: on the edge of a local park about 1.5 miles from most local attractions
The hotel is based on an old builing and is currently undergoing building work and renovation. The staff are very friendly and helpful. However the room we were given was looking quite tired, with a very dirty and scratched floor in the downstairs section, chipped paint and incomplete repairs. Storage was also limited to a small wardrobe 40 cm wide which also housed the ironing board and safe. The bed is set on a mezanine accessed by narrow winding stairs. these are not carpeted and we found them quite uncomfortable to use. Seating in the downstairs section could be improved as well. The bathroom was beutifully designed and of high quality but again was looking tired with leaking taps and badly replaced fittings. The bed was huge and very comfy but the carpet on the far side was stained by what looked like bleach (red on a dark brown carpet) and had not been hoovered properly. The hotel is set on the edge of a beautiful park with the restaurant looking out over this. on the other side is one of Amsterdams major canals. Whilst set about 1.5 miles from many of the major attractions and city centre these are easily reached by tram or a nice scenic wak if you so wish.

Hotel under renovation

Posted May 23, 2017
Pros: good staff and comfortable beds
Cons: where do I start!
Location: a few hundred metres to the trams and then easy access to centre nicely located by a park
Room was not clean on arrival,(dirt on the floor) but clean bed but lots of marks on white walls- extractor fan area very dirty . Minimum facilities - television was not plugged in and plug was under the bed and the power point was next to bed so had to be careful not to get tangled in lead on getting out of bed! but this and the fridge failed after day 1 and no one could fix it. Bath would have taken all day to fill as water pressure so low but shower OK Good points - staff very friendly and breakfast reasonable and beds were comfortable and large
