I was visiting Amsterdam for the first time so I wanted to stay at a convenient place. Sint Nicolaas was very conveniently located as it was near many shops, restaurants, and the Centraal Station. The rest of my stay left much to be desired. They are currently undergoing renovation so I don't want to hold their current appearance against them. The area right outside the entrance just wasn't well maintained as there were usually piles of trash, which isn't a pleasant thing to see when you first walk in. Because of the noise in the morning, it's hard to "sleep in" so plan to be awake around 8 am since that's when I usually heard the hammering. Admittedly, it did seem like they were trying to minimize the noise, but one can only hammer so gently/quietly. The hotel room itself was relatively spacious and comfortable. There were several annoyances, however, like the very weak water pressure of the shower and lack of a desk, which I thought was standard in every hotel. The worst part of my stay was when the fire alarm went off in the morning. At first, I had no idea what was happening as all I heard was a very loud piercing alarm while I was using the bathroom. Needless to say, it was quite inconvenient as the elevator wasn't working and I had to leave earlier than I wanted to. I felt really bad for the front desk worker who was desperately trying to turn off the fire alarm. No one from management appeared to show up immediately. Consider staying elsewhere.
