Lovely cottages and friendly and helpful host

Posted Jun 13, 2015
Pros: Lovely host, warm and friendly environment, made us very welcome
Cons: Nothing comes to mind
Location: Close to Palmer and not too far from Anchorage. Easy access to the road north to Denali
We were allocated a cottage so that we were not disturbed by a school group. This was a very thoughtful action by the host and one we appreciated. The cottage was large and very comfortable for the one night we stayed there. The property might have been difficult to find if not for the GPS and is several miles from Palmer, where we needed to go for dinner. However, since we had a car, this was not an issue. Breakfast was more than adequate and served in a new complex. I would recommend Alaska Garden Gate B&B and cottages.

Response by Karen, owner: Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback with us. I'm glad you enjoyed the upgrade to a cottage while the high school sports team was staying in all the Inn rooms! Thanks for choosing our B&B on your Alaska vacation.

Bed & Breakfast in Palmer, Alaska

Posted Jun 8, 2015
Pros: Quiet and close to Palmer.
Cons: Rooms were very clean. Toilet seat was loose but husband fixed that. Light blub out in bathroom. Coffee still is pot from last customers.
Very roomy cabin. Very comfortable king size bed with good quality sheets. Nice Jacuzzi tub, large shower. Electric fireplace in sitting area. Breakfast hall very good. Banana bread was awesome!!!

Response by Karen, owner: First of all, thanks for tightening the loose toilet seat! I'm sorry our new cleaners missed getting the previous guest's coffee out of the coffee pot. We strive very hard here to have very, very clean rooms and I'm sorry we didn't meet that mark! But thank you very much for the compliments, and I'm glad you enjoyed my banana bread recipe, which I agree is pretty awesome!

Nice location, but don't stay in the house

Posted Jun 7, 2015
Pros: Nice location
Cons: A second sound-proof door would help.
Location: Nothing is really close, but with a car it is 5-10 min drive to restaurants and gas. It's 40 minutes north of Anchorage so convenient for travelers.
This really was a beautiful facility, but we were in the basement guest apartment with only a thin door connecting us to the owner's house. They had a crying baby (until close to 11 p.m. both evenings that we were there) and kids who yelled as they played during the day. No one should stay in the apartment until the kids grow up. It was not restful and not worth the price we paid to be there.

Response by Karen, owner: I'm so sorry you were in the apartment next to guests with a teething baby! That was a hard couple days during their stay...I didn't know you could hear them that much; we could because we sleep one floor above that apartment. We have some noise abatement paired with the internal doors, but will look into more, and I appreciate your mention of it. Thank you for taking the time to write a review.

Basic motel on outskirts of bustling Willow

Posted Jun 5, 2015
Pros: Clean, updated, nice landscaping
Cons: Earlier checkin time
Location: On outskirts of busy Wasilla just a few minutes from Iditarod Museum
I had trouble finding the B & B. Travelers will have no trouble if they seek the adjacent hospital. The B & B is on the same street. Staff was friendly. The window of time to check in (not until 4) made me return twice to get sign-in accomplished. Room was just ok. Cramped with two sets of bunk beds. But I could see a family of 4 liking the room. Food was just ok at breakfast. Did not like the family seating arrangement. Would prefer my own table.

Response by Karen, owner: Hi Ranjana, thank you for sharing a review. Our $129 Bedrooms with Private Bathroom are not that big because we were seeking to make a very affordable option, besides our popular cottages. In the past, some guests seeking a place to stay liked the idea of our cottages but didn't want to pay $179 per night, so we're trying to offer something for customers seeking economy, too. We have plenty of tables in the Breakfast Hall, so I'm sorry if you didn't get a chance to sit by yourself. Thank you for staying with us. **By the way, we are five miles outside of the town of Wasilla. The town of Willow is about 25 miles from our B&B.

Lovely Homely place

Posted Jun 5, 2015
Cons: everything seems ok, just the blinds lanyards need untangling for easy closing.
Location: very good, quiet, just easy access to the freeway
Very nice motel, brand new building, very cosy, well furnished, lovely kitchen, well stocked kitchen and bathroom, lovely staff, good breakfast, very quiet place, good heating system, fast internet, parking is very good, good value for money for something near Anchorage.

Nice Cottage

Posted Jun 5, 2015
My husband and I were so amaze with the cottage as well as the view of the mountains overlooking in our bedroom. It 's cute but very roomy. It's presentable and neat. Free good breakfast. Its ok to use the google map but we got lost. Their place is parallel with Trunk Rd and their on top of the hill which is hard to notice, maybe they need to have a big board on the street that tells where to exit to find them. Better call them first before your visit so there will be no hassle.

Response by Karen, owner: Thanks for your review! It's true, it's easy to find us once you've been here once, but the first time can be confusing. We do have a thirty foot yellow sign on our hillside for guests to watch for, and also a D.O.T. Tourist Oriented Directional Sign at the corner of College Drive and Old Trunk Road. Those markers can be helpful in addition to using Google. GPS directions are not reliable.

Nice and relaxing before a LONG trip home

Posted May 27, 2015
Pros: Quiet, clean, relaxing atmosphere
Cons: Possibly offer dinner in addition to breakfast
Location: Plenty.... Lots of nature hikes, trails, parks, beautiful landscapes, lots of flightseeing tours, etc.
We found the B&B with an Expedia search. It's approximately 45-50 minutes outside of Anchorage, but a beautiful drive. The owner and her staff were very kind and helpful when we arrived after a long day departing our cruise and sightseeing. They recommended a wonderful local restaurant for dinner. Our two units were very clean with nice amenities and VERY comfortable beds and kitchenette facilities. They were even accommodating and gave us a little extra time to leave the next day when we were flying 10 hours home to the East Coast. We would DEFINITELY recommend this B&B to anyone traveling to the area!!

Great Little B&B!

Posted Apr 28, 2015 on Hotels
I had meetings in both Palmer & Wasilla, AK, and this B&B was conveniently located half-way between, in a quiet, scenic spot. The cottage we had was lovely, and the host and an assistant were very pleasant and attentive. Food for breakfast was left for us each day in our refrigerator so we could select what we wanted and make it for ourselves in the a.m. There were a few minor "glitches" - Wi-Fi didn't work right while we were there, and the couch wasn't very comfortable for sitting in the evening - but overall it was very pleasant, and we told others about it!

Response by Karen, owner: Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We've been hearing that the couches are becoming less comfortable, so we've made an order for new ones. Also, we have recently upgraded our internet coverage on our property to increase the bandwidth available and speed, too. Please come back and stay with us again!
