Scraping the bottom of the barrel

The hotel is not even "okay" in terms of niceness. It's old does not seemed to have been properly cleaned in years, the carpet is disgusting looking. And the window it was stuck so a handyish man up with a mallet to shut it. There was the basic of things; shuttle to/from airport, bed, shower, TV-the basics, full size bed (not queen). Three floors, no elevators. And we did not get bed bugs which was a rumor that our cab driver heard and warned us about so that was a huge relief.
Now, this is where "disappointing" dropped to terrible. The room card didn't work because the batteries in the card machine on our door were out. Apparently, only ONE [mystery] person knows how to change the batteries so the entire 3 days that we were there we had to ask the front desk person (there is only one) to let us in. This is the same person that drives the shuttle, mind you, so if they are out picking up/dropping off we had to wait. One day I called every half hour from 6:30am to 11am (when I lost reception) but there was no answer nor a voicemail. I mentioned the inconvenience of the room key to front desk woman and she gave an unapologetic shrug. Most of the front desk people also seemed inexperienced like they were just a fill in for the day.
The rotten cherry on top was that the plugs in the room are so loose charger would just fall right out. I had to jerry-rig it so that we could charge our devices.
