Not exactly "Grand"

I have been to Italy on business and pleasure trips over 40 times. My good Italian friends have often reminded me that the "4 star" hotels in Italy are many times suffering from "star inflation", and are really more like a 2 and 1/2 stars. I had a nice but Spartan experience overall at the Grand Passetto. The room was small and basic, and the bathroom had one of those showers that is so small, if you drop the soap you can't pick it up without exiting the shower and then getting back in. I have never stayed at a "Grand" hotel or a "4 star" hotel where there is no restaurant, the bar is usually not open, and the air conditioning only is operating "certain hours". The pool is small but clean. If you are looking for a basic hotel room close to the Ancona beach, the price is right, and I'm sure you could do much worse. The BIG highlight of the trip was actually the Passetto restaurant across the street ... wonderful sea views from the deck, and a sommelier who was over-the-top friendly, knowledgeable, and generous with his pours.
