Nice but relatively disappointing

Posted Apr 13, 2016 on Hotels
Not a 4.5 rating. The rooms were clean but small with ant problems, not a few, hundreds. They did upgrade our room on the last night though after complaining twice. Breakfast and lunch was limited and only okay. Dinner was better but not great. Service varied. The pool was clean but the cabanas did not have shade and a few smelled like rotten. The snack bar often ran out before close. They also ran out of towels on multiple occasions. The hotel’s beach is nice but public so if you booked this resort because it states adults only that does not mean that your time on the beach will not include children. Also the hotel recommended a day boat tour that was the worst boat tour I have ever been on. Over crowded with lots of children, and the only drinks were warm beer and rum punch. I was surprised this tour was promoted out of a "4.5" star hotel. Certainly not worth the money at over $110 per person. Additionally there was an annual beach party on a nearby beach with music blasting until 4-5 am. The hotel warned us the day before and could only offer ear plugs. The listing for this hotel on hotels.com stated free wifi in the room and room darkening curtains. None of these were true. Wifi had a daily charge of $8.

This resort is amazing! The rooms are beautiful, food is delicious, and the views are unreal. The staff is extremely helpful and does everything they can to make your stay the best it can be. We will definitely be going back here in the future!

Peaceful and Private

Posted Mar 29, 2016
We chose the island of Antigua based on Cocobay resort pictures. We somehow lucked out and got what we believe is the best room on the property (#LC) for privacy. We barely left our sanctuary! Our ice bucket was filled daily and we enjoyed sunning on our private patio and in our plunge pool. My husband and I went for our 20 year anniversary and loved the peacefulness of the resort. We had lunch at Sheer Rocks upon checkout and loved the tapas style menu for a change of pace. Cocobay was everything we had hoped for!

Charming hotel in a great location

Posted Mar 5, 2016
Pros: Friendly staff. Great location. Excellent food. Fellow guests very friendly.
Cons: They need some umbrellas by the smaller infinity pool as there's no shelter from the sun unless you get one of the 4-poster bed type arrangements.
Location: Location is great. There's jet ski (at local cost) and the usual array of kayaks and hobie cats. Dennis's bar on Ffryes beach was great.
Just back from 10 very enjoyable days at Cocobay. Key points for me were that it's adults only and the rooms are all individual cabins, so very private. The grounds are compact but very pretty. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. One main restaurant and bar - there is a limited beach bar during the day - but the selection at the buffet breakfast and lunch was great and the a l carte menu in the evening changes every night. In all cases the food was excellent. Drinks too were great and the evening entertainment varied from a cool jazz/blues piano man to all-dancing evenings of pop/reggae favourites. The hotel is nicely situated by Ffryes beach which seems to be in two parts - both are the sort of stunning white powder sand you hope for. Both beaches are public. The hotel provides sun loungers and towels for guests as well as a waiter drinks service. The beaches are popular with locals - especially on a Sunday - as well as independent travellers. We didn't find this intrusive during our stay as they tend to use the 'non-hotel' areas of the beach. The atmosphere on Sunday though with the local families having their beach BBQs was joyous.

Wonderful experience

Posted Feb 25, 2016
Cocobay is a lovely boutique all inclusive. Although it may be smaller than some other resorts, we did not mind this at all. It never felt crowded or loud. There are a lot of couples so keep this in mind. We were 4 ladies and felt very relaxed and taken care of. The views are extraordinary and the pools and beach are well kept. The food is good although sometimes they try to be a bit too gourmet and fall a bit short. Beds were so comfortable! The staff is wonderful. All in all a great experience!
