Essence of the Antigua Experience
Posted Oct 4, 2015
La Casa Encantada is a boutique hotel with 11 rooms, as I recall, located in a quiet section south of the center of Antigua. Because we had come to Antigua to take a few weeks of intensive Spanish study, we chose room 10, one of two on the second floor, next to the terrace where breakfast is an absolute delight on a sunny morning. On rainy mornings, breakfast is served in the hotel's living room lounge, which is not a very successful venue with the present arrangement of furniture and coffee table. The rooms at ground level are more romantic but smaller, with scarcely room for a desk. We stayed for a week. It was the rainy season and we were able to negotiate a nice discount from the rack rate.
We were impressed by the friendly professionalism of the staff, particularly super-helpful Innkeeper Karen. The wi-fi signal is strong throughout the hotel. There was a nice choice of breakfasts (included); all were ample and delicious.
Casa Encantada is affiliated with the five star Antigua Porta Hotel half a block away, and so guests may use the Porta's lovely, big but hyper-chlorinated pool or breakfast at the Porta's buffet. We have suggested that CE update its in-room brochure to mention these options.
