Thanksgiving in Guatemala

Posted Dec 2, 2016
Pros: Rustic decor, courtyards, pool, candles, charm
Cons: The special menu in the restaurant Thanks giving night was fantastic, but other than that, I thought the food was bland and uninteresting
Location: The old buildings, architecture, jade stores, street sellers were all so interesting to visit. Easy day trips. Central location
This was our best Thanksgiving ever and definitely the most memorable. We had dinner in the restaurant of the hotel which borders and interior courtyard with a fountain. The hotel is built on a series of courtyards, some have fountains, another a pool sitting underneath a stone wall fountain. The courtyards are green and cool and enchanting. This must have been an old convent (hence the name) and once inside you have the sense of comfort, romance and magic. We went with our three teenage boys. We splurged and got separate rooms. Very nice. Our room had a private terrace which was walled in with a private jacuzzi and wall fountain. sitting in the hot tub with my husband at the patio table, totally private, was so relaxing. The bathroom was huge. The decoration is definitely rustic. If you want sleek and modern or sweeping views, this is not the hotel. If you want intimate, charming and luxurious, this hotel more than fills the bill. I think this is one of my favorite hotels ever and I've been all over the world. Great location. about 3 blocks from the center plaza/park. Everything is in walking distance. Great vacation with teens. We climbed a volcano and went to the lake. DONT rent a car. So easy to get lost and road not so safe. It is very easy to get transfers from the airport and tours to the main spots.

Lindo hotel, solo les recomendaría una limpieza profunda a los artefactos de baños.

Looks like an old world convent

Posted Oct 4, 2016
Pros: I really like the staff. And the restaurant is superb.
Cons: The steps and stairs make this not for everyone. Other then that I wouldn't change a thing.
Location: In 6 blocks you are in the city park. Horse drawn carriages. Street food. Tours. Children playing. Or get taxi into surrounding areas
21st century convenience. Beautiful. 6 short blocks to Central Park. Only for the sure footed. I'm a senior and do fine. But their are stairs and stepping stones. The staff is world class. Everyone is so kind and helpful.

Nice hotel in Antigua Guatemala

Posted Sep 12, 2016
Hotel El Convento is a nice hotel. The only thing we did not like is that our rooms were too dark. They have closed the terrace and put a wall where they had balconies, so we felt closed in. Next time we will ask for rooms in the first floor. But for the rest, the hotel is very beautiful, and service is excellent .

Beautiful, Quiet Retreat

Posted Sep 4, 2016
Lovely hotel, friendly, attentive staff. I would stay here again, and again without a second thought. Beautiful grounds, attention to detail, and centrally located in Antigua. Restaurant with bar service on-site, too. Tough to beat what you receive for the price at El Convento.

Beutiful well mantained hotel

The air conditioning system is very bad. It cools to a desired temperature and then it stops. So it becomes cold and then warm, no stability in the room temperature

Personale alla reception incompetente

Posted Aug 14, 2016 on Hotels
