Good central location, fantastic views.

Pros: Spacious comfortable rooms, large beds, roof terrace with wonderful views, staff spoke English and were helpful in arranging trips and transfers.
Cons: Include fruit juice in the inclusive breakfast deal - we had to pay extra for it every morning. Serve hot water with tea, not tepid water.
Location: Located close to centre of Antigua, easy to walk around the old city. Hiistorical buildings and colourful markets to explore and volcanoes to climb.
We enjoyed our time at the El Carmen hotel. It was rainy during our stay, so we appreciated being able to sit in the covered atrium. Everybody enjoyed breakfast on the roof terrace, with a reasonable choice of food. Our rooms were quiet. We would be happy to stay here again.

Loved El Carmen!

Posted Jun 6, 2017 on Hotels
We had 8 people stay in Antigua after a mission trip. This was our 4th trip. Loved El Carmen! The beds were the most comfortable we've had in Guatemala. My room even had A/C. Triple room (king & 2 twins). The staff was very helpful. And the breakfast was the best! Wait staff so friendly.bottomless cup of coffee oveelooking the volcAnoes surrounding AntiguA. Our rooms were quiet and lovely! Other 2 rooms were a little warm but they provided fans. Best rooftop terrace of the hotels we've stayed at prior 4 trips.Fabulous location in heart of AntiguA! Will stay here again!

Loved El Carmen!

Posted Jun 5, 2017 on Hotels
They were fabulous! We had 3 rooms. All were comfortable and lovely. Room 106 was beautiful and air conditioned. We've been to Guatemala 4x and never had a.c. the breakfast was the best and served on the rooftop. Waiters were so nice and grateful of the tip we left at the end of our stay. We were there 5 nights. Can't beat the location . Easy walk to everything. The front staff was very helpful with suggestions and directions. We've stayed other places, but El Carmen had the best roof top terrace. Drinking coffee every morning on the roof was amazing! I read in TA that it could be loud. I always take a noise machine when I travel, but even my family in the other rooms had no problem. Loved our stay and can't wait to return!

Convenient location and great breakfast!

Posted May 24, 2017
Pros: The breakfast and beds.
Cons: The room we were assigned the second time we stayed there was really hot and the portable fan they lent us was not enough. An AC would be the solution
Location: A really good taco restaurant around the corner. 200 meters away from Calle del Arco, were you can find multiple restaurants and arts and crafts.
We had the opportunity to stay in this hotel in two different occasions in two different rooms. Both times we had to deal with three different front desk guys, which were very kind, always willing to help and give any information you need. The beds were very comfy and clean. The first room we were assigned was fresh but the shower too small. The second room had a bigger shower, however the room was extremely hot day and night, they lent us a portable fan and it was not enough, certainly and AC has to be installed there. All the breakfast options are very delicious and the waiter is very polite and kind.

Pros: I like the Location
Cons: coffee, better internet connection
Location: I was on a medical mission trip with a group, and the hotel was just around the conner from where the group was staying. I like this very much.
The staff was very nice and helpful, I would recommend that they would have a coffee station so we could get coffee early in the morning before Seven AM in the morning, The Breakfast dose have to be improve I did enjoy it in the morning. Also there was only one outlet behind the bed it was a good think that i had a power strip with me. I got there late and the staff was very helpful the room I had was very nice and close to the back but I could not get my internet connect, so I had to change room. I would stay there again but they need to do something about the power outlet, have a coffee station for us that get up very early in the morning, And have better internet connection J. Perez

huge disappointment

Posted Feb 15, 2016
Pros: location and Eric the receptionist.
Cons: how about everything!! even the coffee was sad.. and in the coffee capital of the world how could that be!!
Location: lots of shopping and restaurants close by.. which is great..
the one highlight was Eric the receptionist.. he did all he could to make the stay a good one. The hotel is tired and worn. almost no amenities and not very clean.. breakfast is provided and okay. very noisy.. in fact the last morning, staff were sweeping the hallways at 4:30 a.m. location to the central park could not have been more perfect. but.. there are so many other (and better) hotels from which to choose.. I will never stay here again.. nor will I recommend it. would rate it no higher than a 1 star
