Nicely appointed hotel with awesome volcano views

Posted Feb 12, 2017
Pros: The room , the view, the thermal pool on our deck. I turn it on at 5 am for a dip. Not working. I call :We turn it on at 630 and off at 10 PM :(
Cons: I ask for ice, none around. I to ask where it is, they say they will send a maid with the ice. I decline. They persist More tipping required.Tip-city
Location: Took chips from minibar. $2. On checkout charged 75 for minibar. Complimentary bottle of wine charged and reversed after I object. A rip-off,
Pros: Beautiful rooms clean comfortable, ours with a volcano fed hot tub on our patio. Helpful staff, Awesome views Cons: Absolutely horrid road to get to the lodge, 3.5 km long. Check in: 3:30. Room "not ready" at 3:15. When I said "I called and you had 5 unsold rooms, these rooms should be cleaned already" Suddenly the room was clean and the keys were given to us. Along with a complimentary bottle of wine "for the wait". They park your car and keep the keys. They shuttle you to your room. As you descend to your room, I say "I need something from my car" which we pass on the way to the room. The driver responds, "if you need something from the car just call the desk." We are shown the impressive room, tip the driver, and get settled. After taking in the view and the room amenities, I call and say I need something from the car. 20 mins later no one has arrived. I call again,"i'm sending someone right away." No one arrives. Finally I snag an employee who happens to be driving by. I tell him that I called twice and no one has arrived. He goes to the nearest house phone, to call the office. The phone is not working. Finds another phone, and shortly a driver appears. He takes us to our car, we get what we need, he spends another 3 or 4 minutes showing us the hot springs and wildlife, and returns us to the room. We tip him. Room svc costs $5. We order a casada that costs $4 anywhere in CR. cost: $18, toast $5! food-mediocre.Cost $58 plus tip

Beautiful hotel

Posted Feb 3, 2017
We arrived on a clear day and the view of the Arenal volcano when you walk into the hotel takes your breath away. Everything is top notch. It wasn't very clear the remainder of our stay so you can't see much of the volcano but the grounds and views are still beautiful. We ate at all the restaurants and all were great. Recommend the ahi tuna with bacon wrapped plantains.

Hello Patty, Thank you for choosing us as your destination at Costa Rica and for the good comments. The hotel’s higher altitude relative to other hotels in the area allows for not only incomparable views of the Arenal volcano, the lush valley, and the surrounding towns that sparkle at night, it is always impressing to see these views every day. We know Costa Rican food has a good fame, that is why all our restaurants do the best to fulfill the expectations of our guests. The Ahi Tuna with Bacon Wrapped Plantains is one of our favorite plates, it is great to hear that you enjoyed it as well. Thank you, hope you can visit us again. General Manager, Don Luis Campos.

Excellent staff, facilities, and amenities.

Amazing experience. Activities on and offsite were exciting and authentic. Coming back to the comfort of the nearly private hot springs and relaxing hotel provided the perfect balance to an activity filled vacation.

Beautiful, romantic place - Perfect honeymoon!

Posted Jan 14, 2017
Pros: The staff! And the wonderful thermal baths! Los perdidos especially.
Cons: We found it kind of frustrating that baths and activities don't start until 9am. We are morning people and would have liked to do things earlier.
Location: There's so much to do there - tubing, horseback riding, the pools, or just lounging in the beautiful rooms or on the balcony enjoying the birds.
Everything here is beautiful and there's so much to do. We never saw the volcano (rain and fog) but we enjoyed the hotel so much and all the various activities to do there, we didn't mind. What makes this place even more special is the staff. Everyone at the hotel went the extra mile to make our honeymoon romantic and memorable. It was wonderful.

Our Club Rio activities center are, it´s open from 9 am to 4 pm and hot springs from 9 am to 10 pm. Because we care about nature and animals, we decided to do not exceed the use of the nature or to overexpose the animals, so they can have a good rest and enjoy of the habitat. Hotel was spectacular, needs better accessibility

Posted Dec 23, 2016
Pros: Views, pools, spas, and staff.
Cons: Wheelchair accessibility
Location: Hotel has alot of activities on site at the Club Rio, but we didn't have time to check it out after 2 full days of relaxing!
Stayed here for 2 nights, hotel and staff were magnificent. Accessibility should be better in a 5 star hotel this new. Elevator didn't go to bottom floor, so no wheelchair access to alot of the pools and spas as well as the pool bar and restaurants without going up several very steep and long ramps. Rooms were great overlooking the volcano.
