This hotel is perfectly situated adjacent to Arezzo’s spectacular Piazza Grande. We were warmly welcomed by a friendly host. However, the hotel did not live up to our hopes. Our room was called the ”Masaccio,” after the famous 15th century Florentine artist. Outside our room was a reproduction of his painting of the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the garden of Eden. That is rather how we felt when we returned to the hotel after a wonderful day in beautiful Arezzo Our room was on an upper floor, up several flights of stairs, which was not in itself a problem, but the room to which we had to repair was dark and dreary, with a utilitarian kitchen, and furnishings that appeared to be an eclectic assembly of castoffs. We were staying for three nights, and we knew there were better rooms in the hotel. However, when we requested a change to one of those, the owner, whom we never met, refused. The breakfast room was like why is dark, dismal, and claustrophobic. Next time, we will look for other accommodations in Arezzo
