enjoyed our stay. Staff very helpful. Old building built in 1602. Interesting paintings on the beds and ceilings. No nearby parking, and one must carry luggage up steps to the entrance and up to the rooms, so not a good place for someone who cannot handle steps and luggage.

Great hotel, very unique, you feel like in old-time Europe. But not for everyone, for once - it has lots of stairs! No lifts! Good breakfast, fresh oranges were provided to make your own fresh squeezed orange juice.

Surprisingly bad experience

Pros: The charm and quirkiness of the hotel.
I was very excited to stay at the Ilion Hotel because of the high rating the hotel has received on various travel sites. However, our experience there was incredibly disappointing. We booked two rooms for our party of 5. The first room was a suite. And although the room was large and the decor interesting, sleeping on the beds was like sleeping on slab of rock and there was no shower in the bathroom, only a bathtub. The second room was the 3 person suite located in what seemed to be the basement. Shortly after we arrived my grown children showered. The shower did not drain properly as it was clogged with hair from the previous guests. This resulted in a small flood which drenched the bathroom and the area immediately outside the bathroom. We removed the hair clog and used towels to sop up the water. Disgustingly the towels then turned brown which told us the carpets had not been cleaned in quite some time and the room had a noticeable stench for the rest of our stay. We brought this to the attention of the hotel staff immediately who told us our grown children must have been playing with the shower head to cause the flood. This was really insulting and left a terrible impression of our stay at the Ilion. We also asked to be moved to a different room and were initially told we would be able to move the following day, but when the next day we were told there was nothing available. Overall this was a really disappointing experience.

This was a great place to stay. In the city center, it was not easy to find, but once we were there, it couldn't be surpassed. Beautiful furnishings, friendly staff, great breakfast, in the heart of things, we loved it and would definitely recommend it.
