Unique historic property with tons of potential. Unfortunately, the hotel is outdated, understaffed, dirty and just downright pitiful. No heat in our room. We were given 2 space heaters to use and bought one ourselves to use. Bathroom was tiny and dated. Water poured out from the shower faucet and barely any out of the shower head. Bed was terribly uncomfortable. The bartender was also the waiter in the adjoining restaurant, which also had only one heater working. One of the worse hotels I have ever stayed in.
We have stayed at the MV before and loved it then and now. Only issue we had was that it was like a sauna in our rooms. Didn’t see a thermostat and couldn’t crack the window. May want to check into it. We closed the vent to slow the flow of the heat. Other than that we enjoyed our visit.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
The building is iconic, rooms comfortable, being 75 there were many stairs to get around, the bathroom was unsafe without holding bars in the bathtub. Moving in and out was difficult for all the stairs and no available baggage carts. This is a romantic venue to stay requiring younger bodies to enjoy.
The property is beautiful, the staff was wonderful and the dinner we had was amazing! It is set in a lovely area that we wish we had more time to explore.
The only suggestion I have is to add the ability to stream television. I would recommend the hotel to anyone going to Black Mountain.
