Relaxing and friendly. The room was comfortable and generous in size. Great value for money. The location is excellent. The staff was polite and very helpful. I wish my stay was longer.

Good but with outrageous prices for basics

Posted Nov 20, 2016 on Hotels
I appreciated the shuttle to the center of town and the pleasantness of the staff but was very surprised by the outrageous and unjustified prices charged for basics and expected commodities 30 euros a day for internet 32 euros for breakfast 7 euros for an espresso (ordinary and tepid)

Dear Guest, Thank you for having chosen the Athenaeum InterContinental for your visit to Athens and for taking the time to write a review. Guest satisfaction is what we strive for and we are pleased to learn that our staff service and complimentary shuttle bus service to Syntagma square were to your satisfaction. With regard to our prices, may we take this opportunity to clarify that the cost for connecting to the internet is Euro 6 per day for up to 3 devices, while all members of our loyalty program, can enjoy complimentary internet access on the basic package as one of their benefits. Furthermore, while our menu prices reflect the high quality of product and service provided, they are also in line with our competitor hotels in Athens. We thank you once more for your valuable feedback and look forward to welcoming you back in the nearest future. Yours sincerely, Martha Pallis Guest Relations Manager

Nice hotel in proximity to tourist area.

Posted Oct 11, 2016 on Hotels
I stayed at the hotel twice in the space of two weeks. On the first stay, I was upgraded to a premium room and on the second I had a standard room. The premium rooms were fine but the standard rooms were in serious need of renovation. Fixtures falling apart, peeling wallpaper, mold on ceiling in washroom, limited water flow in the shower, and so forth. Hotel is located slightly off the main tourist area, but which is within 15 walk or accessible with hotel shuttle. High level of noise in some rooms from highway beside hotel coming from cars and motorcycles drag racing. Light sleepers beware! Area immediately around hotel is rather run-down, but did not feel unsafe when walking about. Otherwise, main parts of hotel were excellent, particularly the rooftop restaurant/bar with excellent view of the Parthenon. Service was absolutely excellent. Breakfast buffet was good albeit a bit pricey at 22 euros. I would go back to this hotel, but would certainly encourage them to update and refresh their older rooms.

Great hotel. Location not ideal.

Posted Oct 3, 2016
Great great hotel - wonderful amenities and super friendly/helpful staff. The restaurant in the hotel is very overpriced. Go out and eat if possible. However we landed at night and the room service with 2 young kids was super convinient. The only complaint is the hotel is near a highway and it was noisy at night :(

Not really what I expected from an Intercontinental--the rooms felt more like a Holiday Inn. They were "non-smoking" rooms but reeked of smoke that when I stepped out of the room I still stunk of cigarettes. The bathtubs was weirdly shaped making it very narrow to stand in for a shower. I am not that big or wide but if i moved my foot a little in either direction I would lose my balance on the sides of the tub and there was some movable glass shield that you would think would protect you but just moves and I almost fell into the bidet a couple of times. Bed was uncomfortable with no top sheet but just a comforter which I have never seen before in all my traveling. (How many times do you think they clean that comforter?) Our view (we had a club room) was of some abandoned buildings with graffiti. To top if off we went to take the shuttle that was to take us to the main square but he took us about 1/3 the way and said we had to walk the rest of the way because of some traffic and didn't give us really any direction on how to get there or how to even catch the next shuttle. We walked a long ways and if we didn't have gps on our phones would have probably gotten lost. I felt so bad for one of the women on our shuttle who had high heels on and had to walk all that! I found it strange because other cars seemed to make it through. We ended up taking a taxi back to the hotel because we had no idea where he was going to pick us up or IF he was.
