What you would expect from Novotel
Posted Nov 16, 2016
The hotel is well presented, with helpful staff and a modern, up to date lobby area, a good bar and restaurant area. The room was exactly what you would expect from Novotel; nowt flash but clean and comfortable. It's within walking distance of many of the city's sights, though the walk to the city centre isn't the most relaxing. The area between the hotel and city centre is extremely run-down, with barely any pavements or pedestrian crossings so you end up walking on the road half the time and running across roads to avoid being hit by mopeds or taxis.
The hotel itself is in a 'rustic' neighbourhood, to be polite. The area around the hotel seemed quiet most nights but we were told by our taxi driver to avoid the area around Omonia Square after dark, which falls roughly half way between the hotel and the city centre. I would recommend walking the 5 or 6 minutes to Larissa Station and catching a Metro to where you want to go, especially after dark. The metro is excellent and stations are clean and tidy. We got a 5-day unlimited pass for 9 euros, which was excellent value.
