Dirty, ramshackle debacle

Posted Jul 8, 2016
Pros: It's in Austin, one terrific town! And the staff were courteous, even though they were over-matched by the terrible conditions they were working in.
Cons: Get the repairs finished, upgrade your AC and be more open and honest with customers ahead of time when you're under repair.
Location: Austin was great! It was near 100 degrees most of the day, but dry and windy so that it hardly bothered. So many restaurants, bars and color
Booked and charged for a room the night before I arrived, so I wound up paying for two rooms that night. Upon arrival, I learned that it was undergoing massive reservations, dangerously non-functioning elevators, dilapidated air conditioning (in Austin!), dirty halls and floors, chaotic, makeshift front desk and amenities, no food service (I was actually advised to cross the parking lot to a gas station next door if I was hungry, thirsty or needed convenience items). The bed-frame was poorly fitted to the mattress, so that its sharp metal edges stuck out underneath the spread, and as the entrance to the bathroom was very tight-by, it produced a number of thankfully minor (though painful) injuries. We had to improvise a safety work-around by placing a shoe over the protruding metal.

Lots of construction. Dated hotel. Not worth $290 per night.

We do indeed have lots of construction going on at the moment but it's behind walls and closed off to guest access; but it really is for the best. We don't want our guests to feel like they are in a "dated hotel" but in a clean, modern hotel. Plus, we will still have free parking and free Wi-Fi for all of our guests once the renovation is complete - that's definitely something that makes a downtown Austin visit worth it!

We arrived Saturday afternoon and about 30 minutes after our check-in, the power went out in the hotel. This means no elevators, TV, phones, or light in the hallway or stairwell. The power did not turn back on until sometime Sunday morning. The staff was very courteous and willing to assist with any concerns we had over the loss of power. The hotel was also going through major renovations, which most likely caused the power outage, and this was inconvenient as well with the loud construction work and detoured pathways to our room and parking garage. The hotel staff and management did everything they could to help us enjoy our stay, but overall the experience was awful.

Thank you for your recent stay and comments. During our ongoing renovation, a power line that ran through our walls was accidentally cut, resulting in multiple power outages throughout the hotel. We worked quickly to resolve the issue, but it was an inconvenience for many of our guests and we sincerely apologize. Please know this is an anomalous situation, and is unlikely to ever happen again. We hope that you will stay with us again during your next trip to Austin.

the hotel was under construction - and they had to reroute guests down the back and around to the elevators. it was actually a dangerous path - just waiting for an accident to happen. wonderful staff, but terribly unsafe walk to get to rooms and elevators.

Thank you for your comments and acknowledging our wonderful staff. The path you are referring to is the walkway that the employees of the hotel have always used. When we knew that guests would use this hallway during our renovation, it was first upgraded with new flooring, a new ceiling, added lighting, paint, and signs. We are sorry you felt differently, but the hallway is perfectly safe. We hope that you will consider staying with us again the next time you are in Austin.

Maybe when the construction is done.

We paid a premium rate for a below average hotel. Also it's under renovation construction and it made it almost unbearable.

Thank you for your comments. We are sorry we did not meet your expectations. You are correct, the hotel is in the process of a renovation. Every effort is being made to minimize disturbances to our guests. Temporary walls have been erected so that guests do not come into contact with any of the construction, which takes place from 8:00am to 6:00pm. We can't wait to see the end results later this summer. We hope you will give us another try once the renovation has been completed.

Thank you for your comments. We are sorry we did not meet your expectations. I have alerted the proper department head to look at the air conditioning units. We are sorry you were unhappy with the noise from the highway. We have a great location along I-35. All of our guest room windows are double pane to reduce outside noise. We hope that you will give us another try the next time you are in Austin.

Thank you for your comments. We are sorry we did not meet your expectations. I have alerted the proper department head to look at the air conditioning units. I will also forward your comments to my front desk manager. It is rare that our front desk can not help in some way, whether they contact our engineering department to go and fix the unit, or if that fails, to move you into another room. We hope that you will give us another try the next time you are in Austin.

Great Value and Well Located

Posted Apr 21, 2016
Pros: The location, ease of parking, room comfort, and cleanliness.
Cons: When construction ends it will be much easier to go in and out of the hotel.
Location: Right near downtown and capitol. Restaurants, music, and Alamo Drafthouse are all super close
This was our first trip to Austin and we wanted something fairly cheap but not out in the boonies either. This hotel fit both of those bills perfectly. Most of the places we were interested in going we 15 minutes or less away. A lot of the downtown spots are easily a $5 Uber/Lyft ride away. The capitol building is 10 min away easy. We were super happy with the location and ease of parking at this hotel. The only real negative was that since it was under construction it was a long walk from the car to the room and there was no lobby or bar area to relax in. That said the room looked very clean and the bed was very comfy. The bathroom is not huge but it works. Overall it was pretty good and at a great price.

Thank you for your review, Neal. We're very happy you were able to see past the construction going on in the lobby and enjoy your newly renovated guest room and all the nearby attractions while you visited Austin. We hope you will be able to return to Austin and visit us again once we have completed the renovation. It'll be a brand new hotel!
