Classic Hotel

Posted May 20, 2017
Pros: location
Cons: room service coffee needs insulated pots.
Location: central and right in the middle of entertainment area.
Wonderful stay and amazing staff. Amazing interior. This place reeks of history and I recommend this hotel along with a visit to LBJ museum and library.

Central downtown hotel

Posted May 16, 2017
Pros: The room, the staff, the location
Cons: For a hotel of this standard the coffee cups in the room were nasty cheap, paper. They were hard to hold with a hot drink in them.
We upgraded to a king room for an extra $15 a night. It was well worth it. We were put in the "new" wing, from the 1920s. The only problem was with the elevators. You could hear them going up and down all the time. It was very distracting and hard to sleep at times when they were busy. Consequently I would not stay in this part of the hotel again.

Nice older hotel great location

Posted May 11, 2017
The only things I would comment on were the wait staff in the restaurant seem a bit matter of fact not very engaging at all. And there is an "aroma" on the main floor that I could not tolerate. Asked about it and was told they pump it thru the air vents 'Sandler odd gold'. The smell reminded me of gardenias which reminds me of funeral flowers. Lastly, we sat in the bar one night and never got service even though the waitress was at the next table telling her life story to those patrons and was facing us the entire time. We ended up going to sit at the bar. The door and desk staff were excellent though.

A Lil too historic for my taste

Posted May 1, 2017
The staff was friendly and the history is cool. I wouldn't recommend for any but a drink in the bar. It's great for location but it's lacking in amenities. I recommend you stay around the corner at the Westin and stop by this hotel for a whiskey.

Loud loud loud

Posted Apr 30, 2017
We spent two nights at this beautiful old stately hotel. On both nights people were in the halls until the wee hours of the morning talking loudly and preventing us from sleeping. On our second night along with the people talking in the halls that was jackhammering it started early in the morning on a Saturday not only impacting our sleep. We brought it to the attention at the people at the desk when we checked out not expecting or wanting anything but just to let them know that we were a bit upset. They told us had we not booked through Expedia that they could've compensated us for it. But because of our affiliation with Expedia it was nothing she could do. Again we had not ask for anything. We checked out at 10 o'clock in the morning and she said why don't I offer you a free breakfast we had already had breakfast. We were offered points to stay at a another seven star level hotel we said thank you and left. Upon further research the likelihood is visiting one of these hotels is never going to happen The hotels are very limited. We had planned on the Driscoll hotel being the crown over Texas tour but as it turned out it was not very disappointing.

Fantastic stay in Austin!

Posted Apr 29, 2017
Pros: It was very well appointed and looked beautiful!
Cons: Nothing!
Location: 6th Street is at your doorstep!
I had a lovely stay at the Driskill. The hotel in conveniently located in the center of the city and it is on 6th Street, which means it's handy to countless bars and restaurants. Does that mean you'll hear any noise from the street below? I certainly didn't! The hotel is very tastefully appointed and looks absolutely delightful. The staff were very polite and friendly. The room I was given was very tastefully decorated, clean and very quiet. Would I stay here again? Absolutely!
