Beautiful Old Hotel

Posted Jan 1, 2017
The room was very clean with very nice sheets on the bed, a white noise machine, and pleasing overall appearance. Above the bathtub was a rusted out access door to something. I wouldn't have thought to see rust in a 4-star hotel. The refrigerator and snack tray are weight sensitive (per the front desk lady). The fridge was over stocked to the point we didn't have any room to place our stuff in there. The 1886 Bakery and Café was really good and tasty. It does get crowded, so just get stuff to go and eat in the room. Overall, I would go back again.

Beautiful property

Posted Dec 26, 2016
Location: As a local, I can confirm this is a great location. We parked 2 blocks away for 45% less than what valet charges so it paid to do a little research!
The hotel is absolutely beautiful and no matter where you look there's something that'll catch your eyes. From the soaring ceilings in the lobby to the tasteful Christmas decorations to the columns and railings. Check in was seamless and the woman was very pleasant. We had a corner room, a petite queen, on the third floor and I enjoyed the dual windows. Room was spotless and the update they had last year makes the room feel fresh and modern without compromising on the historic charm. We had a few issues with the room. First, my boyfriend wanted to shower before heading to dinner and there were no bath towels anywhere to be found. We called guest services and it took them 30-45 minutes to bring them. Next, the ceiling fan/light combo is controlled via remote control and ours had a dead battery. The maintenance man came quickly to replace it and was nice. Lastly, the existing mini fridge is small and stocked completely full with beverages leaving no room for anything we would want to put in. We enjoyed a dinner a Perry's 2 blocks up (highly recommend) and both of us had left overs. We called guest services and they brought up another mini fridge right away which was very accommodating. Later in the evening we went down to the beautiful bar to have a late night snack. There's ample seating in large, comfortable arm chairs or love seats. The food was good but very overpriced for the amount you're served. Check out was a breeze and we enjoyed breakfast in their cafe/bakery.

My husband booked a stay at the Driskell Hotel. The staff was extremely friendly, courteous and professional. The decor of the main foyer and rooms was amazing. I would definitely recommend staying there.

Wonderful hotel

Posted Dec 18, 2016
The hotel is in a great location, really close to 6th street. Ella the concierge was very hospitable and friendly. She called the room to make sure it was to our satisfaction and if we needed anything else. We would stay there again.

A Grand Old Experience!

Posted Dec 12, 2016
Pros: It was old world gorgeous with service to match!
Cons: We were pretty happy so, at the moment, I can't think of a thing!
Location: Because of a time constraint we only attended the concert in Austin. We did stop to see The Junk Gypsies in Round Top on the way home which was great!
I stayed at The Driskill with my daughter recently when we were in from Houston to see Dolly Parton. We had the most wonderful stay here! Tucker, at the front desk, was very welcoming! The hotel was dressed for Christmas and was beautiful! Service was excellent, breakfast was fabulous and our sleep was restful! I would recommend The Driskill to all who want an all round excellent experience

Big John Mills

Posted Dec 11, 2016
Pros: very friendly staff, very impressive architect,
Cons: Better beds and pillows, and better rates.
Location: The Athenian Bar and Grill, Eddie V's Seafood,Stella's
Wanted to come hear one of our favorite musicians, enjoy a nite downtown and spend the nite at the Driskill. John was great as always, Happy Hour at the Driskill bar - really loud, very unpleasant so found some great places within walking distance to have some appetizers and happy hour beverages, Fantastic dinner at Eddie V's. Back to room, hard to control temp, too hot then too cold, hard bed, squishy pillows, could hear music from 6th street (understandable for such an old hotel) but still not pleasant. View we paid big $$$ for was of a parking lot on the rooftop next door, couldn't see through the window because was foggy inside the window. Definitely wasn't worth the amount of money. Would not do again. Staff was very friendly.

Great historical hotel in the heart of Austin.

Posted Nov 26, 2016
The Driskill is a lovely, historic hotel in the heart of Austin. Hyatt is doing some repairs, updates and cosmetic adjustments, but this didn't affect our stay. The staff is very friendly and attentive.
