Lady Bird Lake is named in honor of Lady Bird Johnson, the late former First Lady of the United States and a long-time resident of the Austin area. It provides a tremendous recreational resource for Austin, the state’s capitol, including hike and bike trails surrounding the shoreline as well as paddling, rowing, and fishing in the lake.

About 1.5 million bats fly out every night.
These are tiny fruit eating bats that have been taking residence under the bridge every summer since the bridge was renovated in 1980.
In all honesty, I was expecting a much bigger explosion of bats, instead it was a steady ribbon slowly emerging for about 20 minutes. Maybe watching from a boat on the river would have been more impactful. Still very cool though. :) The Boardwalk Trail at Ladybird Lake in Austin is an awesome alternative ToDo.
Great view of the city skyline, trees, turtles, ducks, fish, bikers and joggers abound.
The Boardwalk is on the South side of the river and takes at least an hour to walk, you can cross the bridge and return on the trail on the North side of the river if you want. #localgem
