Fn “quaint” place. Bathroom is tiny. Like so tiny. The shower door hits the toilet set so make sure you towel is where you can reach it. Lovely balconies. Interesting 1882 property

The young woman at the desk was very friendly and patient while I tried pull my information up on my phone. We had lovely old rooms with views of the harbor. Each floor has a balcony with wicker furniture and lovely views. This a venerable old hotel and maybe a little worse for the wear but it is well kept, everything was clean, and the furnishings were charming. My daughters and I thoroughly enjoyed staying here.

Staff in lobby was friendly,helpful and informative. Rooms are small however clean and quaint. The hotel is in a great location, easy walking distance to major sites and activities. Hotel is old yes ,needs some sprucing up ,however enjoyed the stay.

This is a quaint little hotel close to the beach. It is an historic hotel, with charming balconies and cozy rooms. It’s very clean and the beds are comfortable. My sister stayed in the main hotel and her room had central heating, which was important because we visited on a cold weekend in February. The rest of us stayed in a small cottage next to the hotel, which was perfect except that it did not have heating. The two little heaters provided, when run at the same time, tripped the breaker. Once the night manager got the electricity back on, we didn’t dare run both, even though both were needed. If you are traveling during a cold snap, as we were, stay in the main hotel.

The power kept going off when we would turn on the heater. It was very frustrating and we had to sleep through the cold at night. Other than this, stay was okay. But Catalina was amazing

The hotel is sorely in need of upgrades. The light switches look like they're from the 1960's (or earlier?). I don't mean that as exaggeration for effect. Also, please know that the hot tub does not work and the front desk clerk mentioned that it has been shut down for good, covid or no covid, due to pipe leaks. On the plus side, the rooms themselves while small and slightly shabby are super clean and tidy. This is no "fleabag hotel." The beds and bedding are comfortable. The shower works great, the towels are fluffy, and the tap water is also oddly delicious. We felt quite cozy in our room. Also, the view from the balcony down the hall was really great. It was a nice, inviting place to hang out. I felt like, for Catalina, this place was a super deal. Just be aware of the shortcomings before you book here so you do not expect this hotel to be something that it is not. It should have been classed 2 stars, not 3. I strongly recommend it as an affordable, comfortable way to stay overnight in Avalon. (for the record, i did not see any ghosts etc and the property had "good vibes" for whatever that's worth.)
