Know what you're getting yourself into
Just be aware that what you're paying such a high price for – and why my review gets 2 stars - are the views from the balcony. They are stunning. Beyond that, this property and the rest of the Hamilton Cove neighborhood were average at best and oftentimes caused a lot of frustration. First of all, the house advertises that it sleeps 6, and includes the use of a golf cart. But our group had trouble getting around as the golf cart only holds 4, and property management was very strict about enforcing this rule. In fact, the only thing they seemed concerned with was telling us all the things we weren’t allowed to do in a very unfriendly manner.
We also wasted several hours of our short stay on Catalina simply trying to get to our property and our golf cart to put our luggage away. Normally, each property’s golf cart can be picked up at the check-in office in town, a short walk from the ferry terminal. However, shortly before we arrived on the island, I was informed that because of COVID the golf cart could be picked up directly at the property. When I asked if courtesy transportation would be arranged for us due to this change, I was told to take a cab. There was a long line at the taxi stand, and we hadn’t seen a single in 20 minutes, so I called the taxi service. They flatly said they didn’t have any taxis available and told me to just keep waiting at the terminal as “they would come by eventually.” So we rented a golf cart and drove to the property ourselves. At the security gate, we were informed that no rental golf carts were allowed on the property, and we weren’t allowed to simply drive to get the golf cart we had paid for. And, again, there were no other options for transportation, which was very rudely explained to us by the nasty woman occupying the booth at the gate. And when asked how to get to our house, she looked at a map and unpleasantly sneered, “Oh wow, you have a long walk ahead of you!”
Also, as others have pointed out in previous reviews:
-Golf cart is beat up and barely makes it up hills (of which there are many on the island, including a very steep one just to get to the house)
-Severe ant problem
-Only house entrance is 80 steps down a steep winding stairway, so if you have trouble walking up and down stairs this might be limiting for you
The views are lovely, but not one-of-a-kind, and not worth such a premium price. I can find many cheaper options which don’t cause me nearly as many headaches as this place did. No thanks…
