En route to South of France

Posted Sep 18, 2017
Pros: Excellent old hotel in the centre of Avignon. Easy access and hotel parking and a great position form which to explore Avignon.
Cons: Once you reach Avignon don't follow your sat-nav to the hotel as it will take you to a multistory car park which you will have to enter to turn round.
Location: The Hotel d'Europe is located inside the old city walls of Avignon very close to the Palais des Papes and the the famous bridge.
We stayed at the Hotel d'Europe for one night to break our journey from England to the South of France. Excellent old hotel in the centre of Avignon; Napoleon Bonaparte stayed there! The hotel staff were very welcoming. We chose to have dinner at the hotel that night which was served outside in the courtyard. The food and service were both excellent. We will certainly stay there again.

A delightful hotel in a perfect location.

Posted Aug 23, 2017
Pros: Wonderful staff who could not have been kinder. It was perfect in every way from location, comfort and a total delight.
Cons: The only improvement was to have stayed longer.
Location: Avignon is a superb city in a beautiful part of France blessed with a fascinating history. The hotel was ideally placed to see the glorious sights.
A wonderfully attentive and charming staff made for a wonderful stay which was all too short. Nothing was too much trouble. I loved it.

Outstanding Hotel and Experience

Posted Aug 17, 2017
Pros: Location - it's in a quiet area just inside the city walls and a short 7 minute walk to the city center. The hotel itself is impressive.
Cons: A nice, special touch might be to offer complimentary wine (nothing fancy) and light snacks in the courtyard in the late afternoon for an hour.
Location: River cruises down the Rhone, fabulous restaurants, city center and Pope's Palace, wine tasting trips.
After having to relocate from another hotel during our trip, we found a sale on Hotel d'Europe on Expedia - 4 nights for the price of 3 on top of an already good rate. We booked it and this 5-star hotel exceeded our expectations. The bellman came out to greet us and take our luggage and re-park our rental car, The staff is highly professional and checkin was easy with smiles and fluent English spoken. The hotel is like a small palace with artworks, tapestries, ornate furniture, marble staircases. The room we had made us feel like a prince and princess - high ceiling, moldings, elegant furniture. The room was booked as a classic double - it was somewhere 200-240 sq. feet, nicely furnished, sitting area, closet, plush bed, big opening double windows, and large marble bathroom. We loved the courtyard, relaxing any time of day or evening. The staff was helpful in booking excursions and giving advice for shopping. We didn't try the hotel breakfast or dinner - there's a pastry shop nearby and for only a few Euro's, we enjoyed our own breakfasts in the room, a welcome change to some heavy meals we had for dinner. If you have a car, don't checkin park at the front entrance as there is not enough space and you'll block a busy street. Instead turn left onto a side street as you approach the hotel and park in the first right entrance partway into the courtyard- it doesn't block the street and it's closer to the bellman and front desk.

Traditional French, charming hotel

Posted Jul 27, 2017
Pros: The decor, the location and the courtyard.
Cons: Air conditioning wasn't the most efficient.
Location: Close to the medieval wall entrances, the famous Avignon bridge linked to the children's nursery rhyme, the Popes Palace and lots of others.
a beautiful and elegant rustic hotel. The courtyard area is so relaxing and peaceful, yet close to the town's hub. Lots of restaurants and bars close by, as well as Avignon's attractions. The only downside of the holiday was the lack of taxis to get to and from Avignon TGV train station as we went during the festival. I would suggest you pre-order a taxi to meet you off the train, or there can be a long wait. The hotel came up trumps and drove us to the station in the hotel car as our taxi didn't turn up. They go the 'full mile' to make sure your needs are fully met. Loved this hotel and will definitely stay again.
