Very cool castle stay!
Staying in a castle was quite impressive! Our room was clean and modern and very comfortable, but still retained all the character of the castle. We had the surprise perk of being able to explore the castle walls included in our stay - how incredible! The pool is also nice - very refreshing for the summer! But it does get shady early… Beautiful courtyard to have breakfast, but breakfast was a bit expensive for what is offered.

This is the 4th Parador on the 1 month trip to Spain, they are expensive and overpriced. 10 years ago when we first started to stay in them they were excellent, they are now looking shabby and need some serious upgrading.

The parador of Zafra was an impressive castle with a beautifully maintained air of regal comfort. Everything was clean, everyone masked, and the one meal we had delicious. Excellent location and comfortable bed and room.

Charming castle in a cute Spanish town

Hotel in a castle!
The Parador is a castle from 1437 -- it was amazing to stay here, such a unique experience! Also very cool that guests are allowed access to the roof and the tower portion of the castle. The rooms themselves were clean and nice enough, nothing very fancy but the experience was definitely worth it.

Unique Castle Experience
How cool staying in a castle from 1420! A unique experience in a super cool little town. Great options in the Grande Plaza...but nothing really kicks off till 9pm.

Beautiful castle hotel. Nice pool for hot July afternoons too. Loved the courtyard. Old town was walkable and nearby. Town has two plazas with sidewalk cafres. Parking at the hotel was 5 Euros for 24 hours.

Wonderful hotel in a wonderful town
This is a wonderful hotel in a wonderful town. It's in a castle, has a beautiful lobby and swimming pool. Paradise! The service was great and the room was large & historic.

Overall a good stay in a fabulous building. But Wifi only works in some areas of the hotel, and not in my bedroom” so not good for international travellers relying on Wifi to keep in touch and book ahead for further accommodation. This is the main reason why I marked “service” down. There must be a technology solution to enable guests to have Wifi throughout the hotel.

As we don’t speak Spanish, we got very little help from reception. We had to come back to get password for wifi and ask about breakfast. Wifi was continiusly dropping off. It was very noisy in the morning, when other guests were taking showers. Otherwise, very interesting experience. No outside noises. Breakfast was very good. I would enjoy it you had more historical information about the castle, the first owners and history, etc, rather than abstract paintings on the wall.

Bold castle welcoming from the outside
Rooms needing refurbish, weak shower, windows looking the interior patio when the hotel is empty, service sending you outside when there is a smoking site on top of the castle, deserted restaurant with poor food, unwelcoming service. Good sleep in a overheated room with this heavy warm temperature you cannot control, the only solution being to open the window on the noisy patio. Nobody can reach you by phone in your room stuck in stone walls. The only noise is the constant international music and the suitcases rolling on the old odd pavement.

What a thrill to stay in a real castle. Everything was perfect. Our room was beautiful and immaculately clean. We had a wonderful view and the location was amazing with free parking right in f. Only problem is that there is not too much to do in Zafra.

Enchanted castle
Fabulous pool. Fabulous staff. Didn't use restaurant or have breakfast. Changed my room easily as wanted an outer view as opposed to courtyard. Shame about having to pay 4€ for parking. Good location, super town.

Better Than We Imagined!
It is always nice when a stay turns out better than one thought. We chose an overnight in Zafra based solo on geography. What a nice town! What a nice parador! We are so glad we chose this town for our overnight. We were given a nice room with a small balcony overlooking the plaza. Reception Desk was professional and friendly. Room was clean and had all the amenities to make our stay enjoyable. Parking was in front of the parador and, although not included, it was reasonable. One can walk everywhere in town from the parador. Happy we selected Zafra, happy with the parador. Great stay.

Renovated old palace
Great experience to stay in such a historic place , with antique furnishings to match. Our room was very spacious, and quiet at night. Did not eat in at all, as we were only there one night & had to leave early next day. . Walked out to a local restaurant, but hadn't quite remembered how late restaurants open in this area, not until at least 9pm. Loved being so central in Zafra, and loved the swimming pool. Wish we'd stayed longer!

Fabulous building and rooms
This is a lovely restored Castle style building with a cool center courtyard. We only stayed one night but enjoyed the stay. The room and furnishings are fabulous. Parking right outside. Arriving after a long drive we chose to eat in the restaurant which was OK and the service good, but we thought the food pretty average but not expensive.

Hotel was easy to find & convenient parking. Disappointed with the pool & outside area being closed despite the heat. However, the courtyard was comfortable with good wifi access. Hotel was close to all amenities bars, shops & restaurants.

An Interesting Place to Stay
Other than the novelty of staying in a Parador, this place does not offer exceptional value. Though the check-in process was friendly and professional, the stay here left something to be desired. The hotel claims it has air-conditioning. There was no evidence of this in the room. When we arrived, it was hot in the room and I could find no way to regulate the temperature. It eventually cooled off at night with the window open. But the worst thing was the wifi. It was almost useless - it kept disconnecting, and sometimes took four or five attempts to re-establishing a connection. This was easily the worst wifi experience we had during our three-week trip through Portugal and western Spain - and we stayed in some tiny B&B's that had exceptional wifi. So if you are planning to stay here, you might want to take this into consideration.

It was warm and we had the windows open for the night. Our room looked over the entrance square. It was a Saturday night and there were kids making a lot of noise until 2:30 in the morning, making it hard to get to sleep. I question why the hotel or community members don't have the police ask these kids to leave the square as it is not acceptable to be making such a racket in the early hours of the morning. The hotel posts that it is not advisable to open one's windows at night as this is a recurring problem I assume. The hotel obviously feels it is not worth getting this problem solved. An interesting reaction on their part to an obvious social problem. Thus is a large chain of hotels and I suspect that the bureaucracy is making it impossible for one person at the hotel to take charge. Otherwise, a beautiful hotel with amazing staff.

An historic stay
A unique opportunity to stay at this 15th century palace, located in a peaceful town next to the centre. We enjoyed our visit to the convent, its museum and shop. Shops and squares with its many restaurants were within walking distance. Free guided tour of the parador was excellent. Its restaurant was also very good. However, on arrival, staff could not find my booking details, although I showed them the e-booking in my iphone wallet and they insisted that I printed the booking, even though their wifi was very slow. In the end I could not print it so they had to accept my word.

Atrocious disregard for non smoking laws
Our 2 night stay was blighted by the staff of the hotel allowing guests to smoke in the restaurant and other areas of the hotel. Our room was lovely, spacious, clean and the wi-fi was very good BUT, we did not want people smoking on the table next to us when we were eating breakfast. We complained to the staff but were told it was allowed. We pointed out it was against the law and the receptionist apologised and said that was how it was. Absolutely disgraceful for a Government run chain of hotels to openly break the laws of the country to allow smoking in public areas.

Castle Location
This hotel is a former fortress with a beautiful courtyard. This is used as a restaurant and bar. Amazing. There is a swimming pool with towels available from reception. Staff are friendly and very helpful. The restaurant is well worth trying. The starters are rather large.
