Just Okay

Posted Nov 29, 2016 on Hotels
In a Snow Storm with Nothing Else available it was better than staying in your car. Sidewalks were not shoveled and were icy and slick. Room took awhile to warm up with an old boiler for heat but once it did it was warm. You can feel the springs in the matress. Clean Rooms and the Staff was friendly.

Yikes! I'm very sorry to hear you were unhappy during your stay. Snow storms are always unpleasant! That storm, being the first of the season, hit us unexpectedly. I'd like to apologize for the icy, snowy sidewalk. Brrrr... as for cold rooms, the heat does take a few minutes, kind of like a vehicle thats been sitting cold... Were doing many updates to the motel as well as our cafe next door but, just like the heat in our rooms, it takes time. The next time you stay with us will be more enjoyable Im sure! :)

Simple & Fantastic

Posted Nov 1, 2016 on Hotels
Lakota Lodge ... Simple & Fantastic. A newly renovated (in progress, mostly completed) older hotel that, for a simple person, is perfect. Visited in late October so the pool was closed but it looked freshly remodeled. This is not a Five Star hotel with room service. This is a comfortable home away from home with friendly staff and owners with hearts as big as the South Dakota view. Our room, 104, had two full sized beds with a dividing door, microwave and mini fridge (both looked new), and a... seeable flat screen TV in the main room with both front and back doors. The view from the back lot was beautiful. On the property was a diner, also owned by the hotel, that looked like your typical truck stop diner but the food was GREAT home style food. The french fries were awesome. You could tell the fryer oil was recently changed. My wife had a side salad that looked fresh enough to be garden picked (may or may not have been). Looked to be the local home town diner. Everyone looked very happy and having a good time. It was my first trip to South Dakota and Lakota Lodge was second place we stayed. The first was a Days Inn in Pierre SD. When we return, we will be staying with Bob (owner) and his wife at the Lakota Lodge!
