Service standards are slipping

It's been maybe 18 months since we last stayed at The Gulf before this, but we noticed a drop in standards of service. The receptionist first quoted us the wrong (higher) room rate when we checked in. This was corrected quite quickly when I questioned this. The pool area seems to be very disorganised as we had to wait nearly an hour after we arrived for pool towels. We only got them when my husband went to complain after they didn't arrive as promised. Although it was Friday lunchtime, the pool wasn't over busy so we couldn't understand what had gone wrong. With the exception of the lovely waitress who could not be faulted, (and has always been excellent) the other staff around the pool need more direction. On the positive side when I left a bag in our room after departure, this was safely placed in lost property and I collected without any problem a week later giving the reference number I was quoted when I reported the loss. Of course, drinks and food at the hotel were very expensive but that is the case virtually everywhere in Bahrain.
