Good value for $$ in great location
Comfortable place with lovely green views. The location on Jl Sukma has lots of great eateries nearby, while still being quiet. Very good value for money. Water was hot, though hand-held shower. It's nice sitting on the balcony! Wifi was patchy.

Relaxed & Restful
Location was quite good, would advise taking luggage on wheels because your taxi will not be able to sit down at door. It's approx 80mtrs to walk down side ally. Very peaceful and quite. Beautiful pool.Room has aircon and fan. Bathroom in need of repairs. Hot and cold water. No kettle in room, nice breakfast provided. Would not recommend to anyone who has difficulty climbing stairs as there are very step stairs to climb without any handrail. Close by on the street near by is a laundry and nice coffee shop, also a bakery close by.

Ubud center and jungle view - perfect combination
The place is located in the center of Ubud, only 10 mins walk from Goa Gajah, Monkey Forrest, and Ubud Palace. The neighborhood is full of warungs (local restaurants) with wide range of prices. The guesthouse is hidden deep in the forrest, but only 50meters away from busy street. The staff, especially manager Dewa, we're really nice and helpful. I've rented a bike from them for around 22$ for 7 days, which is the cheapest price in the area.. They have a wide range of tours and activities that you can buy, which is really convenient. The room was clean, full of storage furniture There's an AC and ventilator. The bathtub is nice and big, they also provide 2 towels. Overall, I enjoyed it and would definitely stay here again. Keep up the good work guys!

Ok for a budget stay
Located down a long narrow alley, just wide enough for a scooter. Multiple floors accessed by staircases. Breakfast of egg, toast, fruit, coffee/tea and choice of 4 fruit juices. Surrounded by tall trees gives impression of being deep in the jungle. Nice pool but it doesn't get much sun. WiFi highly inconsistent - strong fast connection for hours then suddenly slow or disconnected and won't reconnect even though signal strength shows "excellent" Fairly spacious bedroom and bathroom, with semi-secluded balcony seating for some rooms. Grout around the tub could use a good cleaning. Showerhead not positioned for typical standing use, but decent size tub. Some men may find the toilet bowl uncomfortably shallow to sit on. Short walk to Royal Palace and art market

Great location for the price, needs cleaning
Overall, not a bad place to stay in Ubud for the price. The best part is definitely the location- you are a very short walk to the main part of town but far enough away that you have a peaceful stay in the hotel. In general, the room/bathroom was a bit dirty and could use a thorough cleaning. The breakfast was decent and they will bring it up to your balcony which is quite nice. We generally enjoyed our stay, the hotel just needs some restoration and cleaning

Peaceful in the heart of Ubud
As this was our first trip to Bali, we booked the Bembengan Ubud Cottages by chance for one week out of our two week stay in case we decided to move. It turns our our worry wasn’t necessary as we’re so happy we booked here! It was a bit tricky to find the hotel at first as Google Maps places the hotel on Jl Jembawan instead of the correct street Jl Sukma Kesuma, but some lovely locals happily pointed us in the right direction! Down a long (well lit) alleyway, the hotel overlooks a stunning ravine and creek featuring tall bamboo and lush trees. It is also surprisingly peaceful and quiet for being located in downtown Ubud. Check-in was a breeze as we only had to fill in a short document and, from the start, the staff were friendly and accommodating (and speak excellent English!). Our room faced the ravine and, with our own private balcony, we felt like we were high up in the trees; thankfully the rooms are high enough to avoid the inevitable mosquito hoards by the creek. The rooms are simple but well kept and clean, featuring a large wardrobe with lockable doors, air-conditioning, and a spacious bar fridge. The bathrooms, as noted by a few other reviews, are a bit older but are kept in a good working condition and the shower runs both hot and cold. Room service is offered every day and breakfast in the mornings (8am – 10am) is fresh and tasty. We ended up booking our second week here as we've loved our stay and, at less than $200AUD, we think it's a steal!

Peaceful oasis
There are many hotels and home stays in Ubud and I took a long time choosing where to stay for our 4 nights. We were delighted with the choice we made. Bembengan is a beautiful, secluded sanctuary very close to the main street of the historic town. It could be difficult to find as it is down a narrow lane, but many other hotels are similarly situated and good lights make it easy and safe even late at night. The staff were very attentive and friendly, providing a simple but delicious breakfast for us every morning. The hotel can help with trips around Ubud, although there are many providers in the town so you should look around to find what you want. A dip in the shaded pool at the end of a busy day was something we looked forward to and took advantage of every day. The palace, water twmple and monkey forest are within easy walking distance as are the range of restaurants and shops in Ubud. All in all we had a very enjoyable stay in this interesting town because we stayed in this lovely hotel.

An oasis
Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Ubud's busy streets, this place is a quiet, peaceful, tropical oasis. Plenty of privacy on your own balcony surrounded by trees, where you can sip a beverage, listen to the birds and cicadas, as well as the babbling brook (during rainy season). The rooms are immaculately clean and the bathroom has a full size bathtub. The pool is also a great option for a refreshing dip after walking around in the heat. Breakfast is included, which they will serve to you on your balcony. Lovely, helpful, accommodating local staff who will go out of their way to make your stay the best! It also feels good to know that your money goes to locals and not a huge hotel chain.

Just ok.
I'm comparing it to my stay at the kana kuta where I paid the same price and the level of comfort and service was 100 times better. I visited a home stay for almost half of what I paid here and it was a lot cleaner and location was more central too.

Bad Experience!
Full payment made and we have received confirmation email stating 'that the room is guaranteed until midnight local time'. When we reached there at around 9pm, we were told that there are no more rooms! How could this happened when we have made full payment to secure the booking. Furthermore we were transferred to stay at the owner's house 2km far away from the original hotel. The staff attended is very rude when we refused to move and ask for refund. It has caused great inconvenience (time + money) to us and spoilt our holiday mood. It's really an unpleasant experience!

Decent
For our first visit to Bali and Ubud, we wanted clean, affordable and quiet accommodations. Bembengan met our expectations but did not exceed them. Highlights include the garden pool, which was lovely, clean and peaceful on hot afternoons; and the quiet location which a neighborhood down a long alley from the main street. The main downside was an uncomfortable mattress (not pillow top) and tv showed one channel. Wifi was variable. For budget travelers this is a good choice.

This hotel will not be everyone's cup of tea, but I loved it. Negatives; limited staff so you can't get a lift into town all the time, terrible towels, some staff do not speak english, entrance is down a long dodgy passageway, noisy building works next door; beautiful lush surroundings, quiet, great air con, close to town, beautiful views from room.

Friendly hotel somewhat hidden away
Bembengan Ubud Cottage is a small, nice hotel with a very friendly staff. The hotel is located at the end of a small gangway (gang II) giving it a somewhat secluded feel. A small problem is that the neighbors are extending their compound (probably to also add some guestrooms as well) which occasionally caused some noise in the morning. It looked however that the building work was making good progress so this inconvenience shouldn't last terribly long. Close by is an excellent jazz club but it is a bit of a walk (about half a kilometer) to the other attractions of Ubud.

Good value and very helpful staff.
For the price of the room it was very good value. Very helpful staff. Can organize one day trips for you and help you with anything about your trip possible ... ie. car rental, hiring car, trip planning and booking ... I suggest to plan your trip with the staff because they are familiar with everything, and can plan efficient day trips. The rooms are spacious and good condition. The location is not perfect but close enough by foot to all the key places in Ubud. Around 5 minute walk to the main street, but 20 minute walk to the main areas. Breakfast is good.

Great little place!
I had read the reviews about the location of this place, but decided to go there anyway. I'm glad I did. Yeah, it's 100m from the street down a dark (residential) alley that may look scary if you don't know it's there, but once you find it, it's a nice surprise. The owner was a nice guy; his brother works there too. Clean, hot water and 10-minute walk to downtown/main street in Ubud (I have short legs). He lent us umbrellas, gave us a ride to the bank on his motorbike and helped us book a fast boat ride to the next island. Breakfast is very simple and if you are a grown man, it won't be enough (egg, toast, fruit, coffee, tea). But they prepared when we got there. I was happy with our stay. The facilities are nice, clean, and there A/C and hot water. The hotel backs to a creek and a forest, which makes it really nice. You feel like you left the city. But you may wake up with the roosters!

Relaxing, quiet property in the jungle.
Great location! Just a short walk to the center of Ubud, but far enough from the main roads that it is quiet and relaxing. The courtyard is amazing with a nice pool and you really feel like you are in the jungle. Saw a frog and a snake out back but that was part of the charm. The staff was really friendly, especially the night watchman. Great relaxing spot for couples. Not 5 star accommodations but pleasant indeed.

and now for something completely different
This hotel was a delightful change from the norm. Breakfast by the pool was with butterflies , banana trees and friendly Balinese but not a big choice on the menu e.g. eggs or eggs :) The room was excellent with a huge bathroom. However the shower connection came out of the wall about a meter up from the bath so crouching is necessary .Not easy for a tall westerner. Another connection could be placed further up the wall so that both positions could be used. The amount of stairs, without handrails, means careful usage is necessary. We are both in our seventies and reasonably fit so was not too much of a problem and provided daily exercise however I think handrails on the stairs are a necessity. The manager is a friendly , obliging man . We had arranged for him to pick us up at the airport .Our plane was delayed 2 hours and we had no way to let him know , thanks Virgin , but we were greeted by a smiling face. We had a unique experience at this hotel and enjoyed it very much

This is a gem
We originally booked for 3 nights but extended to 5. The hotel is located at the end of a lane, Gang II the entrance to the lane is beside Sukma 6 this is handy to know because the hotel is new and drivers had trouble locating it. At the end of the lane is a three storey hotel with two rooms per floor, the hotel is ony one year old and backs onto a river, there is a 100 foot drop to the river and the setting is mature palms, bamboo and massive fruit trees, the squirells were a joy to watch playing and feeding in the trees. The hotel is in a very quiet residential location but very close to Ubud, a short walk. Has a great small pool. Our room had single beds plenty of hanging space, large fridge and large bathroom. The list of facilities for this hotel is incorrect, there are no kitchens in the room, pillow top beds, in room coffee machine etc and the hotel is going to rectify the listings, so make sure you confirm with the hotel. There are mosquitoes so come prepared, the general stores sell repellent cheaper than in Australia.

Not in walking distance to the center or to tourist sites. Correction to advertising necessary: "Shuttle" means motorbike, sometimes with helmet. Good American-style breakfast. Family-owned and run, with great concern for providing good service.

Relaxing
Bembengan Ubud Cottage is at the end of a narrow alley, about 200m from the road. It backs on to a small river. It's quiet with little vehicle noise; just noisy roosters (which you're never going to escape in Bali). It's run by a family of brothers who will go out of their way to be helpful. It is not "Western" accommodation, but it is good quality Bali accommodation. It's about 1 - 1.5 km walk to the main tourist centre of Ubud. If you want to be in the thick of the tourist strip, this is probably not the place for you. However, if you want a quiet place to relax; read your book; swim in the pool; and just generally chill, this is a great location.
