Convenient and comfortable

Very convenient and comfortable at The Hampshire. Friendly staff. Breakfast buffet could have been a bit better. All was very easy though which is good.

Over promised but under delivered

Frankly, it is nothing more than a roadside motel, not a hotel. It is located adjacent to the N2 highway, in a partially developed industrial park, far from any attractions. On check-in, they insisted that my Hotels.com reservation was unpaid, despite me providing my confirmation number and evidence to the contrary. The receptionist insisted that I provide a bank statement confirming proof of payment. I asked to see the GM to hopefully clear up this matter. I was told that she was at a wedding and could not be disturbed. I was asked to pay again and seek a refund if I could provide a bank statement. After a 20 minutes delay and a standoff, they finally relented after I accessed the Hotel.com app on my mobile device and showed them proof. Unfortunately, this delay caused me to be late for a wedding reception I was attending. The room was reasonably well appointed, however lacked some basics: 1) no bath floor towel/mat. 2) no 'Do not disturb'/ Privacy notice for the door. 3) the room door safety hook was sheared off and not fixed, so could not be secured. There was evidence of inadequate cleaning of the room. The motel offers a complimentary breakfast, but the eating area is hopelessly inadequate.Overall, the motel is not very good and does not represent value for money. There are far better establishments in Ballito in this price range.

OK, but just OK

Things I liked - Shower was amazing - Bed was very comfortable - Excellent breakfast Problems - Room was really dark, why no light for the main area? - Air conditioner sounded like a tractor when running, it was a choice between being hot or getting woken up by it switching on and off - Desk in the room was wonky, kept thinking it was going to fall over - Tea and coffee were provided, but no kettle, was that just to tease? - Took three attempts and 20 minutes to get my room key working
