Beautiful historic hotel. It feels like going to my Great Grandmother's house.

I found the hotel to be a lovely flashback in time and space! Reminiscent but nicer than staying in Yosemite National Park's similar period hotel. Charming in every aspect, decor, location, period furniture, staffing...

This will be a very nice place once the updating is completed. The history of the building is wonderful.

Pros: Music show.
Cons: Room cleanliness and condition.
Disappointing. The hotel amenities are terrible. Bed sheets smell. Room not clean.

Hi, we're sorry you were disappointed with your accommodations. The inn is under new ownership as of December, 2017, and we hope you'll visit again soon to learn about our changes and upgrades.

Loved it!

What a wonderful inn, filled with personality! The food was delicious and the rooms were so quaint. (Heads up-bath tub only). Our only regret is that we didn’t get to stay longer! Will definitely be back and share with friends!

Thank you for coming, Chris, and we hope you'll visit again soon! (As of winter, 2018, we're adding shower rings to our clawfoot tubs, providing showers in all rooms)

I wanted to like this Hotel

Posted Dec 13, 2017
It is laudable to see ownership keeping this historic property open. Too many have been razed or burned down over the decades, and this property does have some architectural appeal. I really wanted to like the Balsam Mountain Inn, however, this is NOT a charming, well restored, turn-of-the-century mountain lodge. The landscaping was tired and minimal. Wi-Fi in the lobby was super slow. Upon entering, two of three gas fireplaces in the first floor public spaces were not lit. The musty smell in the library negated any ambience. Our guest room had zero charm. The free breakfast was tasty but a bit chintzy on portion sizes. Two of four desk and restaurant personnel we met needed a bit of customer service training. Bottom line sadly: The Balsam Mountain Lodge is just an old roadside inn that needs some money pumped into it. Some staff could also brush up on their customer service training. The food may have been the highlight.

Thank you very much for your input - we take it seriously! As of December, 2017, the inn is under new ownership, and many of the areas of need you mention will be addressed. Again, thanks - we're proud of our one-of-a-kind inn, and we look forward to its next chapter!

Quaint weekend retreat

Posted Nov 24, 2017
Pros: The experience.
Cons: During the winter it can get cool in the individual rooms but the fireplaces and heaters in the lobby are enjoyable.
Location: It is a few minutes from Asheville, Waynesville and Bryson City. All have their own personality.
Our third stay at the Inn. It is an enjoyable journey back to the time of large personal hotels. The lobby is a gathering place to actually socialize with the other guests. When it is warm outside the rocking chairs on the porch with a nice view of the surrounding area is delightful. The restaurant and the breakfast is highly recommended. We will be back. I highly recommend it if this is an experience you are seeking.

Sweet and quaint

Posted Nov 12, 2017
I would visit again but get a room on the second floor next time. We were on the main level and couldn’t sleep between the noise above and outside our room. The bathroom wasn’t necessary very clean and barely large brought to maneuver in but it’s an old house that’s been renovated. Very charming. The food and atmosphere were delightful. Certainly couldn’t beat the price.

Thank you Kim for the feedback. The inn can get noisy being made entirely out of wood and in the woods. The inn is under new ownership and has new protocols for cleanliness. We hope you visit us soon!
