Excellent staff

Posted Aug 28, 2017
Breakfast was good. The room was tired looking, dated and shabby. The bathroom was not clean the toilet needed bleach as there were dark markings on the porcelain. There were specs of black mould on the ceiling. The floor tiles were very sloppy when wet. All in all not a patch on Premier Inn and double the cost!

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to review your say with us. I am glad you enjoyed the breakfast. I completely agree with you regarding dated appearance and it is my hope that our owners will provide some investment for us soon. However there is no excuse for mould or dirty toilet and I will address this with our housekeeping company. My apologies. Michael Williams General Manager

Pros: Actimel yoghurt drink @ breakfast, helpful staff, reasonable bar prices and excellent location.
Cons: Annex accommodation, better lighting in stairways and lounge.
Unusual combination of characterful very old rooms and bland 1970s accommodation. Friendly and helpful staff, very good breakfast with fruit, yoghurt (including individual yoghurt drinks !), good choice of cereals and full English breakfast buffet. Very convenient location, a few minutes walk from Banbury town centre, but rooms at the front of the hotel can suffer from road noise. Public areas are quite gloomy due to large areas of dark wood panelling, but are kept clean, if a little tired.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your feedback, I am pleased to read how friendly and helpful our team were and that you found us to be in a good location. I understand what you say about the combination of accommodation we are a 17th century building with a 1070 addition of bedroom. Our room at the front of the hotel do suffer from noise as we are on a main road, should you choose to stay with us again please do not hesitate to request a room at the rear of the hotel. Our Reception area is listed so whilst it is characterful I get what you mean about sometimes being dark. Once again many thanks Michael Williams General Manager

Short break at hotel we stayed at in 1980

Posted Aug 20, 2017
Pros: PLEASE SEE ABOVE
Cons: dinner menu
Location: Extremely convenient for Banbury town, Banbury cross, the shopping centres and the canal wharf and lock. We visited Burford, Chipping Norton, Bicester
The most important point about our stay was how pleasant and chatty ALL the staff that we encountered were especially Nicky and John in the dining room, Revv in the bar and lounge and staff at reception. Nice to see young staff being trained up such as Harvey in the dining room who was also very pleasant. The old building had been kept in character as it was in 1980 and possibly in the 17th century.I would have liked to see the retention of a proper Dinner menu in the restaurant rather than a general "From the Kitchen Menu" available at any time from all public rooms. ALTOGETHER A VERY PLEASANT STAY

Dear Guest Thank you for your review I am glad you enjoyed your breakfast with us, sorry that the towels were not replaced, this should be standard if they are left in the bath, if they are hung up then we do not chnage every day. I appreciate the rooms can ge very warm in our hot spells and we do leave windows open where possible for cooler air but this in turn does bring in sudt from th esurrounding are and windowsills can be come very dusty in short time particularly as we are so close a main road. Once again thank you for your comments. Michael Williams General Manager

Well placed for visiting Banbury or the locality

Posted Jun 28, 2017
Pros: The hotel had Character, it is an old hotel and a bit creaky, but in a nice way.
Cons: Get rid of the sofa. and compare the food prices locally.
Location: Plenty to do, a reasonable shopping area and a lot of interesting architecture.
The hotel had Character, the room in the old part was tired, but very clean, the bathroom was clean the breakfast was reasonable. the only real issue was that there was a very tired sofa in the room which was stained, it should have been in a skip somewhere, unless that was where they got it from. The hotel dinner was expensive when within 100 yards there is much more choice and reasonable prices.

Dear Guest, I am glad to read you enjoyed the character of the hotel. I take on board your comment about some of the furniture and I am hoping that our owners will provide some investment for us soon. I appreciate that some items on the menu may be available at cheaper prices in other establishments and will bear this in mind when we launch our next menu. Many Thanks for the feedback. Hotel

Posted Jun 6, 2017
Pros: It's the best hotel for value, it's kept very clean and the rooms are comfortable, with settee to enjoy relaxing in front of the tv.
Cons: As a tea drinker, I think a few more tea, milk and sugar could be laid out. I found nothing else needs to be changed.
Location: The hotel we find is good as you can walk into town and is good as a base to visit places like, Warwick Castle and a few National Trust house are in a
A great hotel for visiting family who live local and an easy walk in to town or for visiting attractions further a field. Staff were very helpful in finding a room for a cake to be stored until it could be taken to the venue for a birthday party. A great stay yet again, I keep this hotel as our number one stop when visiting Banbury.
