Central for Banbury

Nice garden; excellent breakfast. Room tired - towels not replaced. Window sills etc not that clean and limited opening windows in a heatwave!

Dear Guest Thank you for your review I am glad you enjoyed your breakfast with us, sorry that the towels were not replaced, this should be standard if they are left in the bath, if they are hung up then we do not chnage every day. I appreciate the rooms can ge very warm in our hot spells and we do leave windows open where possible for cooler air but this in turn does bring in sudt from th esurrounding are and windowsills can be come very dusty in short time particularly as we are so close a main road. Once again thank you for your comments. Michael Williams General Manager

Well placed for visiting Banbury or the locality

Posted Jun 28, 2017
Pros: The hotel had Character, it is an old hotel and a bit creaky, but in a nice way.
Cons: Get rid of the sofa. and compare the food prices locally.
Location: Plenty to do, a reasonable shopping area and a lot of interesting architecture.
The hotel had Character, the room in the old part was tired, but very clean, the bathroom was clean the breakfast was reasonable. the only real issue was that there was a very tired sofa in the room which was stained, it should have been in a skip somewhere, unless that was where they got it from. The hotel dinner was expensive when within 100 yards there is much more choice and reasonable prices.

Dear Guest, I am glad to read you enjoyed the character of the hotel. I take on board your comment about some of the furniture and I am hoping that our owners will provide some investment for us soon. I appreciate that some items on the menu may be available at cheaper prices in other establishments and will bear this in mind when we launch our next menu. Many Thanks for the feedback. Hotel

Posted Jun 6, 2017
Pros: It's the best hotel for value, it's kept very clean and the rooms are comfortable, with settee to enjoy relaxing in front of the tv.
Cons: As a tea drinker, I think a few more tea, milk and sugar could be laid out. I found nothing else needs to be changed.
Location: The hotel we find is good as you can walk into town and is good as a base to visit places like, Warwick Castle and a few National Trust house are in a
A great hotel for visiting family who live local and an easy walk in to town or for visiting attractions further a field. Staff were very helpful in finding a room for a cake to be stored until it could be taken to the venue for a birthday party. A great stay yet again, I keep this hotel as our number one stop when visiting Banbury.

Disappointing

Posted May 8, 2017
Cons: For such a wonderful building, the hotel should be clean and presentable to better represent the Mercure Hotel Group.
Location: Banbury High Street is well-known and a famous location, so one would expect a better hotel service on this site. Local eateries and shops great.
Disappointing for such a long established hotel. Double room very small. Bathroom dirty. Sacks of rubbish lying around the hallways. No breakfast included in room rate.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your stay with us. I'm really sorry to read your comment about your stay. At Mercure, we strive to provide a superior service experience for every customer; therefore your feedback is very important to us. Please rest assured that we are taking the appropriate measures to address the problem and prevent future occurrence. Regarding the sack of rubbish around the hallways, it probably refers to the blue sacks used by the housekeeping for the bed linen change that are carried around during their service and then removed once they have finished the cleaning. Once again, I'm really sorry for the inconvenience caused and we hope that you will give us the chance to better serve you in the future. Kind regards Francesco Malcangi Reception manager

Do not stay next to the cleaners room...

Posted Apr 23, 2017 on Hotels
We were late arriving as being at a wedding. We were greeted within a minute. Main issue is that due to being listed you hear every noise in your room. We were woke up at 7:15 as our room was next to a store cupboard. SO we could hear every conversation through the door that meant we didn't get the lie in or relaxing morning we were hoping for. We were woken throughout the morning with ongoing conversations.. not the greatest Rooms are basic and not like your normal Mecure hotel. Cardiff I highly recommend but not so convinced on this one

One night stopover

Posted Apr 19, 2017 on Hotels
Very well located in the centre of Banbury. Private secure car car at the rear of the hotel. We did not have any food, but our room and bed were perfectly fine for a single night stopover. Represented good value. Reception staff were helpful and friendly.

Nice hotel for the price

Posted Apr 18, 2017 on Hotels
Lovely old hotel in the center of Banbury. Our room was in the newer section of the hotel and we had a beautiful view of the gardens from our window. The bathroom was clean and a nice size and very bright. The bed was huge and comfortable. Breakfast in the dining room was full of choice and good service. The only downsides were that we could hear every conversation our room neighbours had, including when they woke at 6am every morning to discuss who was showering first! (Thin walls are one thing but it was literally as if they were in the same room) and when we ordered breakfast in our room on our last morning, it arrived late and the toast was stone cold and there were no sauces or seasonings.

Dear Samantha Thank you for your stay with us. I am sorry to read about the delay in delivering the breakfast to your room. Please accept my sincerest apologies and please be assured that actions are already in place in order to prevent this from occurring in the future. Regarding the thin walls separating each room, just to let you know that the room you stayed in was one our interconnecting rooms with interconnecting doors and we are actually working on how to improve the soundproof quality. However please do not hesitate to ask for other rooms in the new part overlooking garden upon your next stay. Thank you also for your great comment about the location of the hotel, the cleanliness of the room and the comfort of the bed. We hope to welcome you back in the future Kind regards Francesco Malcangi Reception manager
