The staff is TERRIBLE. They don't know what is all inclusive. It's to much to explain how terrible my experience was! I arrived at 9:30 PM because i was waiting 6 hours for ferry and I paid for all inclusive. They send me to a restaurant area where I supposed to pay, and they put me menu on the table to order. After that I asked why should I pay because I am all inclusive, and they told me that all inclusive it's closed, but in the same time to pay a la carte was open. After 30 minutes arguing about this ireal situation , the gave me and my group a miserable tuna burger. Remember this word: MISERABLE. I didn't eat and I was going outside of the "resort" paying for taxi, searching for a restaurant to finally eat something. I was back at 2:00AM. So I need 4 hours to eat, pay for my food for me and my group, pay for taxi and go to bed in this "all inclusive". Everything is made for pictures, especially the pool outside, to "look good" for selling. Inside is TERRIBLE. Alarms starting for no reasons couple times a day, everything are poor quality. If you are looking for all inclusive resort experience, AVOID THIS FAKE RESORT.

Quite a tired place with good need of some TLC, particularly in the rooms. Staff were generally friendly, but I was a bit put out when they repeatedly tried to charge me double for my airport transfer. The WiFi is not free, and you're better off buying a SIM card and using that as a hotspot. Similiarly, no bottled water is provided and must be paid for separately, or just bought from one of the shops outside the hotel entrance. Taxis out the front attempt to charge extortionate rates, but can be bargained down easily enough, but that's to be expected. Otherwise, the situation is nice (on the beach), and the pool area comfortable for sitting.

thank you for your observations. The rooms are old indeed but very clean (we have a 99% satisfaction level) so if you feel yours wansn't cleaned properly, our apologies. there is a ground level and 2 floors and indeed no elevator. there are no hidden fees, as it is never said that we have free wifi in the room and the safe is indeed to be paid in the standard rooms

Good Stay and Local Contact
Nice area, lovely local people so warm and friendly. Hotel had good outdoor facilities but the room itself is in need of a refurb. Good basic facilities, comfy bed, no complaints about the room, however in the bathroom our shower curtain was in desperate need of replacing and would have made it feel much cleaner. If you're looking to stay, we'd recommend our local tour guide who helped us with hotel transfer and local trips at good prices. He's called Yaya and can be contacted on whatsapp - +2207602589.

Nice place for a sun vacation
Good: Clean and lately renewed room; very friendly staff; in overall you feel welcome there; Good food Needs improvements: extremely slow service; don't expect much about their rum cocktails (they should change the rum); Annoying local sellers and tour agents (however, in the hotel grounds they are not allowed); Room was cleaned well, but replacement towels, shampoo, toilet paper etc. you had to go and ask yourself (and several times from the several people); They lost my laundry and it took a day continuous asking before they found it again (as a compensation it was not charged).

Reception staff and porters were superb. The breakfast spread was splendid and staff were very friendly. Other restaurants were adequate - flamed grilled chicken at Barracuda restaurant was in fact a stew (appalling). Food and house keeping hygiene need improving. If a napkin falls on the floor staff should give guests a clean one instead of shaking it off and giving it back. Clean table runners for each new service is required not one that has been used. Appalled that our room was cleaned on day of checking out but sheets weren't even changed. Hope this was checked and changed before new guests arrival.

Excellent Hotel next to the Beach
The staff were really friendly, efficient and polite. There was an excellent range of food and night entertainment. The price for food and drinks were really affordable. The beach was clean and right next to the hotel facilities and sun loungers. The pool is far too small for the size of hotel and URGENT need of upgrading. The air conditioning extractor boxes/fans should be placed in the correct bedroom area, as all we could hear was the next door neighbours fan ALL night long - we did not have our on!!

Nicely situated on the beech.
The hotel is situated very well on the beach within walking distance of a few restaurants and places to have a drink. All food we ate around the complex was lovely. The hotel breakfast was very nice also. Great waitresses and staff were seen all round the complex. Very friendly and eager to please (for a small tip). Weill definitely be back.

Nice Beach,
Hotel is located on one of the nicer beaches in the Gambia. Breakfast on offer is sufficient Swimming pool is very small for the size of the hotel. I would recommend staying closer to or in Senegambia area as offers more places to visit of an evening.

Nice hotel right on the beach
We had nice experience on our stay at this hotel. We knew before we went that it is a little dated, and not a brand new bright and shiny place to stay. We went to stay there with some friends for the simple reason of getting a good suntan. This was easily achieved, of course. It suited us fine, and we hardly had a problem with our stay there. The only problem we had was with the very poor internet facility or rather lack of it. We went for walks, along the beaches, and around the local area. We ate at the various restaurants at the hotel, and along the beach, so did not venture out further afield. We all had a great time and would certainly go back to the Kombo beach hotel again.

Lovely hotel bang on the beach !
Lovely hotel on clean sandy beach which stretches for miles ! Hotel and rooms clean & tidy but a bit tired but the staff all try hard. Great position to walk out to bars and restaurants and/or get cab again to very good local bars/restaurants with live bands etc. Certainly a good find and we will return. You need to get into the Gambian way of life though and accept you're in a Third World country ! But, plenty of good food, drink, sun, sea etc etc.

The hotel cleaning this was under par for a four star hotel and the staff kept harassing me and my wife just because I was a black male and my wife is white they were under the assumption that she had hired me so the experience has truly traumatised me and I shall not be returning ther ever and will not be Recommending anyone to go there what a pity that spoiled my holiday

Up-market hotel on the beach, with good facilities
I spent 2 weeks at this hotel with my fiance who travelled from Lagos, Nigeria (I travelled from the UK). I made a prior booking by email to be picked up at the airport, directly with the hotel, as my partner and I were arriving late on a Sunday night. No vehicle from the hotel was at the airport to collect us and we had to plump for a taxi, with no local currency ! The hotel counter staff on duty did not seem surprised or unduly bothered. Our room, (number 257) was spacious, had good storage, a small fridge for our snacks/drinks and a comfortable bed. On the downside, the TV & phone didn't workl and there were several large cracks in the window. In the bathroom, the sink tap jiggled about in its housing, not what one would expect from a 4 star hotel, but.. this was Africa ! We reported these problems to the reception next day. The TV was repaired almost immediately, but none of the other items were attended to any time during the holiday. The buffet breakfast was superb with all of the western favourites, e.g. bacon, beans, grilled tomatoes, plus different cereals, fruit and breads.Eggs and pancakes were cooked to order and staff filled coffe & tea cups frequently. My lady & I enjoyed 3 massages in the health centre..brilliant ! Happy hour in the lobby bar 6-8pm was great..They make a superb Margarita !!

Not quite what it was portrayed o be
Older hotel past its glory days. Staff tries very hard but facilities are run-down and the food is bland. Frozen peas and carrots are not crispy seasonal vegetables. Only 2 different types of fruit for breakie in a tropical country ? mmmmm. The shuttle from the airport was nowhere to be found and more than double the normal taxi ride ( max 600 Dalasi, a fixed price with a little room for bargaining just after the arrivals gate). Free internet in the lobby. It's free but don't expect it to work when everyone in the hotel is using it. Ask for your free sim card at check in. Someone will set it up for you. Look for Assan, the hotel cleaner, he ´s super helpful. Give him your card with the leftover credit at the end. Romm safes can be rented but should be included in the price. All this being said, if you got your vacation for a really cheap price, you got what you paid for and you should be happy. As a business traveller who thought he was getting a good deal, it was disappointing.

Disappointing Service--Hotel to Avoid
Service was quite bad. First night the air conditioning did not work (turned out to be condenser, obviously no maintenance check). After breakfast informed front desk. When back at 4 in afternoon, still did not work--maintenance never came. Went back to front desk, as they called maintenance and almost begged them to come over. After 45 minutes, still not there I was switched over. Hotel did nothing to compensate, at almost $300 a night. Hotel is isolated, so if you don't eat there you have to take a cab/taxi. Going to restaurant, they ask for a reservation, making it difficult to eat at the hotel you are paying to stay at (they are selling the table space to others). At the beach, there is a lone guard, who is there to block non-guests from accessing the beach. Meanwhile, while you are lounging on the beach chair you are constantly harassed by people trying to sell you stuff. The lone guard would occasionally walk over and send them away, but they would come right back. It was supposed to be a "private beach" but turned out to be in name only. No care or concern for the people staying at the hotel. Workers were friendly, but that is about it. And then a fairly boring hotel, with little to do, which is sad as it is fairly isolated.

Bad outweighs the good
Hotel staff was slow to respond and I had to make multiple requests for anything. No hot water first day, phone didn't work, tv didn't work, wifi didn't work, safe didn't work. Huge bush rats seen on the property at night. Pool was nice, breakfast was great, beach is nice. Hotel restaurant food is expensive, ladies at towel counter aren't friendly, room keys are difficult to lock and unlock doors.

My stay was very fine but Hotel.Com was poor. I booked for 7 nights and pad for it but got 6 nights. I had challenges but Hotel.Com was very unhelpful. I am not sure I will use it again. I also found out that Hotel.Com used Expedia which I should have used directly anyway. So, I think Hotel.Com is an agent's agent which was also why it couldn't help. But there was the last person whom I spoke to that tried his best but by then it seem too late. However, the Kombo Beach Hotel people, particularly one they call Doctor at the Reception table was a fantastic man. He was able to assist tremendously. And next time, I will rather book directly with Kombo Beach Hotel since their rate was better. I like the people there and my entire family of was very pleased. The children want to return again.

One pls - lots of minuses
third time to Gambia - first at Kombo. The plus in the price - about half of Karaiba but definitely not half as bad. The minuses - the rooms are very basic, the bathroom has no ventilation and the breakfast has no variety - having been there for 3 weeks you didn't bother towards the end. Nothing in the room - not even kettle for making a drink. They charge you for the room safe and the internet is provided by a third party who has practices that do a discredit to the hotel. All this is a pity for the staff who are friendly and try very hard. Pity they are not backed up by strong management.

Kombo review
We had booked a standard room. When we got in there the curtains were falling down and the room was dirty. We were then shown a second room which smelt strongly of urine. The third room had dirty bedding and a fourth room was no better. We were then double upgraded to a so called premium room. The curtains kept coming off their runner, the bathroom door handle was loose, the door didn't shut and the door was filthy. Also, during the week the bed was changed and stained sheets were put on, which the housekeeper would have seen but did nothing about it. I was Ill all week and had to see the Dr. We had to wait over an hour for food each lunchtime. One time my daughter sent hers back and she had to wait a further hour for a replacement. I travel abroad many times a year and I havent experienced a poorer hotel. It needs updating, painting and new curtains in every room. On the plus staff the staff are very friendly.

Not a bad hotel at all. Right on the beach and has a reasonable pool. Room was clean although it seemed like no one had stayed in it for a while as it had some lingering smells of smoke in the room. We only ate breakfast in the hotel - it was ok although no fresh juice and not much variety or alternatives to the cooked food available. Pizza for lunch was good value. The prices for other food looked quite reasonable for a beach resort - much cheaper than Europe (although we didn't try dinner). Good location and it is walkable to Fajara down a windy path where you will get hassled by people trying to take you to their mates place for dinner. Most of the places in the Lonely Planet listed in Fajara as being there seem to have closed. The one great restaurant there is the Butcher's Shop - great food and service.

Lovely Stay at Kombo Beach Hotel
The hotel is really beautiful with a nice pool, comfortable room and a great spot on the beach. It's on a beach strip that hosts other hotels, so It is a great tourist destination. It could use a little more upkeep, but for the price it's in pretty good shape. There is a cute book swap station and salon/massage services. Be aware that the food and extra services are indeed pretty expensive. WiFi is not included. Overall, however, the friendliness of the staff made up for any minor faults.

We stayed at the Kombo Beach hotel for 1 week. Hotel has good location next to the clean beach. Breakfast is OK but if staying for more than a few days it becomes monotonous. I requested from the chef they change the cheese or marmalade at breakfast time, but they would not. It was the same single orange jam and bland processed cheese every day. The fruit selection was good, and plenty of egg options, but no African options. Evening buffet was different each night, varied and excellent value. The hotel wants to charge extra for everything, and if in a standard room, a room safe is extra. Considering the price of our premium room, I was surprised we were not provided complimentary bottles of water, and received miserly toiletries. If you want to change your beach towel, it will cost you, and only the first one is free, so if staying 2 weeks, then you have to pay to change it daily. My request to management to waive this fee was not accepted, yet they accepted there were many complaints. The hotel employs guard’s to stop the persistent beach sellers hassling you, but there is still a constant stream of sellers annoying you when walking along the beach, or sunbathing. The hotel is well maintained, but the dining areas require modernization, and more attention to detail would greatly improve the ambience (damaged chairs and dying plants in the dining room). The waiting staff would also benefit from additional training, and too often they are standing around or using condiments from sitting customer’s tables. The children’s pool seemed always unkempt, and there were always leaves and detritus in the water. The very sharp edges of the tiles on the pool steps was an accident waiting to happen.
