not a 4* hotel

Unfortunately not the greatest experience for a 4* hotel. The only receptionist we dealt with had been in BCN 5 months only & was unable to offer any help regarding the city, tickets, restaurants, sightseeing. The rest of staff indifferent at best & unwelcoming. Room found in so-so conditions, places weren't dusted in ages. On the second day, only the bed was made & some toiletries left. No swiping the floors, dust and hair everywhere. Pillowcases non changed. Bathrobes thrown carelessly, room not sorted, glasses not changed but only 'wiped' and still had my chapstick on them. We stay out a lot, so by the 3rd day after complaining to the receptionist they decided to 'clean' it. But it wasn't the attention to detail & standards you would expect from a 4* hotel. Cold & uninviting environment. The staff went on about their duties as if the guests didn't exist. Unpleasant experience. The toilets by the sauna always dirty. The receptionist offered us an 'upgrade' at check-in, a room same as superior we booked but a bigger bed & higher floor. But so noisy, can hear the other room. Hard to sleep. Hairdryer was old & dirty. Turned off after 10 seconds & wouldn't come on again. Had to leave the hotel in the middle of winter with wet hair & be unwell for the 3rd day of our trip. Albeit central, the area was rough & there were drug dealings going right outside the entrance. Couple of customers complained, someone stole their money, a security guard was placed in the lobby after that.

Finally, regarding your opinion about the location, Barceló Raval is very centrally located in Barcelona at a few minutes walking from the famous Las Ramblas and other main spots. Concerning public transport, two metro stops (Paral·el and Liceu) are at less than 10 minutes walking from which whole Barcelona can be reached.
