Convenient, very clean, beautiful room & amenities

Had less than 24h to book a hotel in this busy metropolitan area, & I must say I was very pleased overall with this Hampton location. The lobby & rooms were very clean, the bathrooms spotless, the amenities well stocked! For the price we paid, I was more than pleased. However my only complaint was something that involved a staff member. My husband & I reside in east Texas, roughly 4.5h from this location. Given this was a Friday & we'd both worked, I knew it would be we past the 3p check-in time before we'd get there. Even so, we encountered 2 wrecks, which set us even further back. Long story short, I called the lobby twice to let them know it'd likely be after 9p before we'd arrive, but well before midnight. On the first call, the receptionist was very friendly & polite, & lead me to believe that this was OK & that I would not lose my room. However, on the 2nd call the same receptionist offered to "go ahead and check (me) in" to the system so that, if in the event I didn't make it by midnight, my room would stay reserved. He offered to do this, however, only if I'd give him my credit card number "in the event of a liability." Having been former military, I have stayed in umpteen hotels all across the country, & have never been asked such a question. I politely refused & stated I'd take my chances. The reason I find this odd is that I'd already booked & paid for my room on Expedia, thus shouldn't my card already be on file for "liabilities?"
