Another great stay

Posted Sep 27, 2013 on Hotels
We returned to the camp for the second year in a row and it was just as good as the first time. Unfortunately we just missed the Nomad festival but we arrived in time to enjoy the gala dinner which was delicious. Again we found the service was great, really friendly. Also all of the extras at the camp are extremely reasonable, e.g. 2 dollars an hour to hire a horse. Will try to go back again next year.

Great introduction to Mongolia

Posted Aug 21, 2013 on Hotels
My husband and I stayed here for four nights after we arrived in Mongolia (August 2013), and it was the perfect way to begin our holiday! The gers are quite comfy, and all of the adjoining facilities (toilets/showers) are kept clean. We enjoyed our meals and especially enjoyed visiting with other guests. We also got the change to kayak and horseback ride, and both were good experiences for us. We highly recommend Steppe Nomads for couples and families.

A pleasant stay, but a bit too strict arranged

Posted Aug 10, 2013
+ The location and surroundings are incredible with a fantastic nature of steppe, green mountains and a river. It's wonderful to hike, climb mountains or just read a book in this peaceful beautiful surroundings. Our ger was spacious and very comfortable. We hired horses with a guide and that was a fantastic experience. The staff was very friendly and helpful. - The food was ok, but nothing more than that. It was a bit repetitive. The arrangement for lunch and dinner was also a bit stiff and could have been much more flexible. You couldn't even choose which table you wanted to sit at. If you chose "the wrong one", they would move you to "the right one". We think it would have been much better if they would put all the dinner tables together into a long table, so that people easier could sit next to each other (if hey want to) which would open up a natural opportunity for people to interact and talk more with each other. There was a lot of rules and restrictions everywhere that made the place feel unnecessary strict and unnatural sometimes.

Beautiful location with comfortable accomodation

Posted Aug 4, 2013
Pros: Location / scenary
Cons: No internet and had a couple of cold showers
Amazing location in the beautiful countryside. The staff were really helpful and friendly and the food was nice. The gers are cute and very homely. Would definitely recommend the kayak trip too. The website said there was fast internet, but in fact there was no internet in the location at all, so would be good for the website to be updated.

Great place

We had a wonderful time at Steppe Nomads. The location is stunning , in the middle of a nature reserve. It isn't clear from Hotels.com but three meals a day are included in the price making it very reasonable. The food was simple but there was lots of it. The beers were cheap but you might want to get them to put them in the fridge before the evening, they didn't have any cold ones when we were there. There are shared bathroom facilities but they are very close to all the gers and are kept spotless. Our ger was very comfortable and extremely warm once they lit the stove. The staff at the camp are great, extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Our transfer to and from Ulaan Baatar worked fine. The driver was very nice and on time and the car was comfortable. You should allow 3 hours for the drive to the camp from UB. The road is good most of the way but there are some slow sections where it needs repairing. The views on the journey are wonderful. The price they quote for the transfer includes taking you from UB to the camp and back again. All together we highly recommend staying here and will certainly be going back.
