Some newer renovations, OK for the price.

Posted Oct 17, 2017
Pros: Renovated rooms w/ fridge, microwave, desk and office chair. Good location overall.
Cons: Upgrade the general areas and replace stained linens.
Location: Plethora of restaurants, pubs, convenience stores, harbor activities and walking paths, beautiful residential neighborhoods, & close-ish to downtown.
I arrived at night, and felt very uneasy; not being familiar with the area, it seems very sketchy at night. The hotel is located on a busy street corner across from liquor stores, pubs, and other commercial buildings. It is very close to the harbor and only a few blocks away from residential neighborhoods with multi-million dollar homes. The following morning, when I could look around and orient myself, it didn't seem as sketchy. The hotel itself has done well with interior room remodels and the bed/bedding was comfortable. The room is tiny, like an oversized closet. The sheets and towels had stains on them, which was unpleasant. The general areas, anywhere outside the room, were gross and not well tended to. The live-in manager (owner?) was nice. Free parking offered in tiny underground lot, with clear evidence of multiple mishaps, as the spaces are inadequate for any size car and there is no room to maneuver. I chose this place because it was the least expensive harbor-close hotel. There are enough negatives that I would not return. It would be worth it to me to spend an extra 20-30$/night and be more comfortable. If you're on a tight budget, this is a decent option and will do the trick.

Pros: the staff
Cons: parking and breakfast
Location: close to airport
Not enough parking space even though advertised to have free parking. The hotel also advertises free breakfast but did not have. Both were two of the main reasons that we booked with this hotel. The staff was helpful, however, when we got to the hotel late due to rental car issues.

Good Price but Don't Rely on Early Check-In

Posted Sep 29, 2017
Pros: SD in office was friendly. The premises were clean, and room was clean and comfortable. Walking distance to restaurants and Shelter Island.
Cons: Expected more for "free continental breakfast" than piece of Danish and coffee. If guest calls ahead to request early check-in, prioritize their room.
Location: Location was a nice walk to Shelter Island and restaurants nearby.
Called a few days ahead to confirm the 2pm check-in and was told it is accurate and asked if I would like to request earlier. I didn't need earlier, but confirmed I needed 2pm as we would be headed to a wedding. Well, we were running late and called the hotel around 2:15 to confirm the room would be ready by our 2:30 arrival. I was told it would be, but it was not ready by 3pm when we needed to leave for the wedding. Luckily, we had other family staying there and could borrow their room to get ready. It was just disappointing that the prior calls went unnoticed. The room was clean, and we reserved the junior suite which was large. We had a king bed in the room, and another room with 2 sofas (one had a random sheet cover on top). I am not sure if the larger sofa was a sleeper as we did not need it. The room was advertised as a bay view, but we were on the 3rd level and could not see the bay. Probably the 4th floor would have provided a bay view. The rooms provided only soap and shampoo/conditioner as far as toiletries. The Expedia site said "free breakfast". They provide coffee and a Danish cut in pieces. I would not even consider it a continental breakfast. There also is "free parking" which is an underground parking for compact cars. There is street parking for larger cars. I also utilized the free wifi without any problems. The area seemed safe. Overall, the stay was pleasant after our check-in experience. The premises are clean and comfortable, and close to restaurants.

Breakfast is a pot of coffee and small Danish. Beds are hard. Little space in room.

BED BUGS, LOUD NOISES, STINKY

Posted Sep 5, 2017
This hotel was awful from the teenie tiny parking spots which I never parked in because I couldn't fit, to the bed bugs in the bed of which I had to sleep on the couch. Then as I would go into the bathroom and happened to look up in the vent, there was a green light that was on. As if though I was being recorded. I placed paper over the vent. The next morning I took paper down and the green light had disappeared. Definitely was being recorded. The smell of the rooms were horrible and a lot of low class people roaming around. No security whatsoever. I emailed and called Expedia for my money back with no success. I could not complain to the one Indian fellow down stairs who lived in the "back room" with all the camera screens Bc he would tell me my payment was done through Expedia. 189 DOLLARS! And I could have gone down the street on Shelter Drive to a more classy, bug free hotel!

Close to everything!

It was alright but lacks little extras like a coffee pot, water, outside trash cans and there is no complimentary breakfast nook. But if you want a cheap place to stay and you don't mind your neighbour head banging the wall all night long, go for it.

Great location but a dump

Posted Aug 21, 2017
The hotel was a dump. I have to say the Expedia advertisement was deceptive through the pictures it displayed. I wish I'd known what a dump the place was. I would prefer a Morel 6. Location was good but still a dump.

Dirty hairy hotel with no amenities for $161/nite

Posted Jul 14, 2017
Late check in allowed, the only positive I can say about this place. Room should have only 1 bed because the 2 beds took up the length of the room with a mere 10 inch separation between the two beds. No coffeemaker. There is a lil fridge & a microwave. 2 bath towels old and thin. Slivers of soap are hard. Found 2 long dark hair on my bed, food stain on bedspread. I wrote note to request bedspread left off the bed but of course it was put back on my bed. To top it off no soap replaced, my used towels got hung back up on the rack. I didn't come back for my last day despite having paid almost $140 after all the charges. I travel to San Diego 2x/yr, this place is the worst in terms of price vs. value. I can't believe people pay to stay here! Never will this place ever take my money again. Oh btw goodluck on the "free" parking ad they claim. Book this place & you'll see.

Comfortable room near beach

Posted Jul 13, 2017
Pros: it was quiet and convenient for what I was doing that weekend
Cons: Clean up exterior of building and make lobby more inviting.
Location: Plenty of restaurants and small businesses. Also, you could walk to the water.
Came to San Diego to attend a wedding nearby in Sunset Cliffs and needed a room. This place offered the best price in the area. On approach the building is a little long in the tooth and could use some sprucing up but was pleasant enough. Also, upon entering the lobby to check in, there were some sort of unsavory looking people bothering the desk clerk. I don't know what the exact situation was but it was cleared up and I checked in anyway. To get to the point, the check in was quick and the person behind the desk was pleasant. We had a room on the top floor of this, I believe, four story building. The room was clean and the hotel, in general, was very quiet. Other guests just seemed to be regular people on vacation. While it definitely is not four star, it is a clean room with friendly employees, near the water, with plenty of restaurants nearby. You could do worse.
